Papa's Beach Cafe — Restaurant in Kuta

Ordered a chicken dish (can’t remember the name). It came with 5 small mystery pieces of chicken, which were for the most part chunks of bone, gristle, cartilage, and skin. Franky, it was kind of gross biting into it, so I picked at it with my fork for a minute and then gave up. I’d say there was enough actual meat on the five pieces to make up about two regular-size chicken nuggets.

I called over and told a staff person/manager(?) about it and they said they’d go tell the cook about it – and then walked off. Didn’t say they were bringing more meat or taking the meal off the check, or anything else. So, I was just sitting there waiting… He was gone long enough for my girlfriend to eat her whole meal and for me to eat the rice and veggies that came with mine. He never came back.

When our waitress came by again (after we were done and ready to go), she said she’d go see about taking it off the bill (she did). Yeah, great, but I got no dinner and was still hungry! The guy never did show up, either.

Other than that, girlfriend ordered the “Fish of the Day”. Turns out that’s not “Catch of the Day”. It’s frozen. And, we also ordered the grilled mushrooms as an appetizer. It was three 3 to 4cm mushrooms. Three.

This was my third trip to Bali and I love the place (obviously). However, this was literally the worst meal for the money that I’ve been served anywhere on the island - and one of the most expensive. And, that guy never came back. Just walked off.

The wood fired pizza is pretty good. The toppings are plentiful and they don't skimp on these cheese. The base isn't as thick as I'd usually like, so it's a little difficult to pick up and eat with your hands. It's a simple place, nothing fancy. If you're looking for a taste explosion then this isn't it, but it's decent enough. The staff are very nice. The server we had was a super funny guys with a big personality. Prices are similar to others in the area. The atmosphere is nice on the deck and it's a good place to have a beer with friends and check out the local...

We stayed at the nearby hotel and often ate there in the evening. The staff is very efficient and friendly, the food was always a pleasant surprise. We tried all kinds of food - from the Indonesian to the Korean and European. Spectacular is the Volcano Pizza. Portions over 100,000 IDR are large, so order the maine course if you are really hungry. The cocktails are delicious and the wine selection is very good. The Two Island Shiraz was ny favorite.
