In 2017, I had the opportunity to visit Filosofi Kopi Jogja, located in the Sariharjo area of Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The café was relatively new to the local scene back then, yet it had already started to gain attention, especially among fans of Indonesian cinema. Its popularity soared after it was featured as one of the shooting locations in the film Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2, which added a layer of cinematic nostalgia for many of its visitors. The ambiance of the place felt carefully curated—rustic and artsy, with wooden furniture and industrial-style interiors that gave off a cozy and somewhat urban vibe. The layout was spacious and open, offering both indoor and semi-outdoor seating areas. The atmosphere was calm during my visit, suitable for quiet conversations, reading, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee without being rushed. The menu focused primarily on coffee, with various manual brew options available, highlighting the café’s dedication to quality beans and brewing methods. The baristas were welcoming and knowledgeable, and they were open to explaining the origin of the beans and the taste notes of each cup. I tried one of their signature brews at the time, which was presented with attention to detail. The flavor was rich and smooth—an experience that felt crafted rather than commercial. In terms of service, everything was adequately paced. The staff didn’t hover, but they were responsive when needed. While the food options were somewhat limited, the offerings aligned with the café's minimalist and coffee-first philosophy. At the time, it seemed more like a destination for coffee enthusiasts or fans of the film, rather than a typical hangout spot for meals. What stood out most was the sense of being in a place that blended art, film, and coffee culture. The film connection added sentimental value, especially for visitors who followed the Ada Apa Dengan Cinta series. It was easy to recognize certain corners and settings from the movie, which added to the charm for those familiar with the scenes. Overall, my visit to Filosofi Kopi Jogja in 2017 left a quiet, memorable impression. It was a space that felt intentional in both concept and execution—modest but meaningful. Though its fame was partly fueled by film, the quality of its coffee and the atmosphere it offered made it more than just a movie location. It was a place to pause, reflect, and enjoy simple moments.

Please take note of the following information. Yogya Coffee Philosophy is a well-known establishment located in Yogyakarta, celebrated for its wide variety of coffee, assortment of fried foods, and modern snacks such as churros. It is situated away from the busy city center, offering visitors a unique and authentic Yogyakarta village experience, reflecting a thoughtful marketing concept. The establishment fully embraces the principles of the coffee philosophy and prominently incorporates it into its theme. While the concept is commendable, there are certain areas that may require attention from the management. The restroom facilities seem to be inadequately maintained, and some pieces of equipment appear to be dysfunctional and outdated. In terms of pricing, particularly for their coffee menu, it may be considered on the higher side. The quality of the coffee does not fully meet expectations, considering the basic presentation and less-impressive taste. Consequently, the pricing seems disproportionate. On this basis, it receives a score of 6 out of 10. However, the handling and presentation of the fried foods and snacks are deserving of praise. On the other hand, the service may need improvement, as patrons sometimes find themselves taking on the role of servers, which is a notable downside given the relatively higher prices.

This coffee place seems to be famous due to its name, which is the title of an Indonesian movie. They have several branches in other areas, including Jakarta, although I haven't tried the one in Jakarta yet. Honestly, I'm more interested in trying the one in Jogja. The place is nice; it feels homey and comfortable. When you first enter, it gives off a very "Jogja" vibe. The seating arrangement isn’t crowded, providing enough space so you don't feel too close to your neighbors. Finding this coffee place can be a bit confusing initially, but it's not too complicated. They have a fairly spacious paid parking area, so you don’t have to worry about finding a spot. Every corner of the place is aesthetic and Instagrammable. The comfortable atmosphere is great for private conversations, and in the late afternoon to evening, they light up the lamps, making it even more beautiful. As for the coffee, I found it to be quite average—not particularly outstanding. However, I absolutely loved their waffles; they were delicious! Would I return? If I'm looking for a comfortable place for a deep or private conversation, it’s perfect. But if I'm in the mood to truly enjoy a great cup of coffee, I’d probably look elsewhere first.
