Djournal Coffee Pakuwon Mall — Restaurant in Surabaya

I'm really disappointed with the service here. I don't know the service standard in Surabaya as I'm from Jabodetabek area, but I think it shouldn't be this bad. When I asked about the coffee composition, the male staff answered with a kinda annoyed tone and less eye contact. Then I proceed to order at the cashier. I already said that the order is take away, but when the order come out, there's no bag or straw or anything for take away, only the coffee cup itself. That's actually not a really big problem, but the problem is when I asked for a bag and a straw (I ordered 2 cups of hot coffee), the female staff proceed to give the bag but with annoyed face and tone, really unprofessional at all. As I see from a few review here, some people also disappointed in the service. I think the management need to check the service standard here as Djournal in Jakarta really has great service, unlike here.

For the coffee taste, it's so-so. No 100% arabica, only 80% for the cappuccino and other classic coffee-milk combo. I didn't taste any distinctive smell from the arabica, so I think the roasting is too dark to my liking and the bean quality itself is lacking, especially if compared to place like Common Ground where their bean quality is top notch but with a similar price with the...

One of the many coffee shops at Pakuwon Mall, right across from JCO Reserve. Personally I prefer the coffee here in comparison to the reserve. Even though the reserve is marketed as the better coffee shop in comparison, I think Djournal always got my coffee just right - the temperature was always just right and extraction good. I think from a coffee POV, it is also a bit more reasonable from a price perspective.

The only reason I dropped a point for food is because I didn't quite enjoy the burger and fries I had ordered once. The burger was alright but the fries just didn't tasted like it was microwaved and...

Overall was good. Unfortunately the butter chicken was taste bad for the rice especially. I complained about it and the waiter response was very good, they confirmed with the chef. The chef said nothing wrong with the food, that was the taste of the rice that mixed up with the butter sauce of the chicken.
