Welcome to an example of ignorance on foods preparation and no knowledge of cafe cuisine/beverages (test them for their drink mix ingredients, and it's a joke). In summary, a good place and recommended for drinks/hang out, but meager, even pretentious, european/fusion foods replica.
Let's start from overly sweeten macaroon. It will guarantee to send its patron to the dentist if not diabetes land. And the strawberry one tasted pretty fake. Yet against all odd, I'd say they hit the sweet spot for its macaroon texture.
Recommended to order their baby back ribs ravioli with burnt butter, and be prepared to throw the plate straight to the bin. It tasted like chef's head chopped and served with no-burnt butter.
8 hrs beef brisket with smoked rice? Might as well call it fat of the beef brisket (where's my meat, man?), on smokey rice cooked in beef tallow? That's priceless.
Battered prawn with whole chilli padi and fried egg webs? Oh man, u want to sit on this one... What do you want your patrons do with a mountain of whole bloody chilly padi?
Beef carpachio pizza with bacon chips. Nothing wrong with this one except where's the love? Literally as their menu said, they only give you that and nothing else. clap clap clap shame of you as the bloody pizza is sooo dryyyy.
Spaghetty carbonara... Gosh... They need to Wikipedia what does carbonara means. But overall it's palatable. Although might as well take the salmon piece away, I would rather not having it than being served a mouse size serving of it.
Chicken n total cheese galore croquette, served with eeny-tiny amount of chopped champignon mushroom which sautéed with baby potato & a bowl of truffled gravy sauce on the side. Can't fault this one, but was too annoyed with the...
Read moreNice place. Food is delicious at a reasonable price. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy, especially outdoors. Except outdoors os the smoking area so downer for non smokers. The sofas outdoors are comfy and the garden area gives a feeling that you are elsewhere away from Surabaya.
Ok now the food. Choices are varied and food is delicious, however there's not much choices for vegetarians. And if you follow a gluten - free, diet even more limited. But at least for me during a quiet Tuesday at lunch time, they were willing to accommodate; so that was a plus. The drinks menu both non and alcohol is decent for a place that's not a bar, prices match too.
The service was rather slow at the beginning. The waiter who took the drinks order wasn't too pleasant. I asked for Equil sparkling and he said there was no sparkling water. Could not be bother to even say that canned soda water was available until I asked for it. But minutes later I see another waiter serving Equil sparkling to another customer. Luckily another person took our food order, she was very pleasant and much more informative. As well as attentive through out out stay.
In all, Domicile is a save bet for dining or hanging out with...
Read moreIn simple words, a simply must-go place if you are in Surabaya for a short stay. Great dim-lit ambience with soft music and good seating options, perfect for a cozy/romantic gathering, excellent food collection (appetizers, platters and mains) - their Western array is really good (try out the steaks, duck confit, pizzas, braised beefs), and the best of all - the selection of cocktails is really fantastic. We ordered a whiskey sour, long island, sangria, mojito, and an aged negroni, and all of them were really well-prepared and very well presented (albeit the negroni was a tad too bitter)! And here comes the kicker - compared to local prices, the prices may be a tad higher, but if you look at the whole deal and compare it to other similar restaurants, the prices are amazingly competitive. Worth a deal!
All in all, a fantastic place to have a late night bite or have a drink or two, or just have a...
