Tang Palace Chinese Restaurant at JW Marriott Surabaya — Restaurant in Surabaya

Had dim sum lunch with friends here yesterday. The place was very quiet. We were the only customers.

We ordered 10 dim sum menu + Chinese tea. The food was mostly good, except for the xiao long bao. It was very dry. There was hardly any soup inside (which was a must for a proper xiao long bao). And the top surface was also very dry and tough. There rests were good. The tea was ok.

Service was quite fast, but the place was practically empty yesterday. Hopefully it will still be as good when the place is packed. There were many waiters & waitresses, but they all stood at the entrance facing the hallway. No one paid atrention to the dining room. So when we need something, we had to shout to get their attention.

They have several promotions, eg Marriott membership & bank promos, so price was...

By far, the most confusing staffs I’ve ever seen in any restaurant I’ve been on. In a good & bad way.

So…, it was the week in which the Lunar New Year was held. The atmosphere of this restaurant alone, can tell you that it’s a prestigious Chinese restaurant. Thus, it was fully booked all day & all week.

They were unbelievably understaffed, to a point of me seeing them borrowing other staffs from a neighbouring restaurant. And don’t get me started with the amount of miscommunication.

What was very impressive however, was that not a single plate was broken from their constant role out of dishes. I genuinely respect the hustle of the staff members there, even if they were far from a well functioning team.

Whoever managed the place must be on some crack, to not be prepared for the wave of the...

for now.... at this moment, their dim sum is the best with that discount but frankly speaking, i've tasted a much better hakau, siomay, pangsit udang mayonaise at other hotel (now still closed)

just they need to standarize the service' so first coming, chinese tea is poured on the glass second coming, nope first coming we got discount 25% (all u can eat) second coming, we got only 10% (same all u can eat) after we ask the reason, they said its weekend while its on friday and before coming, i already check all the terms and conditions, and today actually we can get 25% after rechecked, finally we got 25% discount

so if you want to get here, better check the terms and conditions first that you know how much discount...
