Magal Alam Sutera (Original) — Restaurant in Tangerang

You can choose beef or pork for the grilled meet. The waiter/waitress will grill the meet for you and you can request whether to grill on your desk or inside their kitchen if you don't want to feel the heat from the burnt charcoal. I love the marinated meet, collar or rib parts because it is more tender and tasty, eat the meet wrapped with provided lettuce (free of charge and you can ask for more if needed).

Other than meet, i love their japchae, i.e. stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables, cloud ear mushroom/fungus, and beef slices. For soup I prefer soft tofu stewed with assorted seafood (a bit spicy but tasty)

Side dishes (provided, free of charge) are delicious: maccaroni with cream and raisin, salad with special sauce, salad with kimchi sauce, kimchi cucumber and white cabbage, cassava/sweet potato/taro with mayo, and half of boiled egg cooked with soy sauce, lettuce and green pepper.

Free dessert is provided, you can choose ice cream (stawberry/chocolate/vanilla) or ice coffe or fruits. I chose vanilla ice cream and I like it.

The place is comfortable as the seats are cozy sofa for table of 4...

We came here because of the good reviews I read. But unfortunately, we experienced the opposite.

The service is not excellent here: We ordered Coca Cola, they only gave us the can. No glass and ice given Asked for a refill of the side dish, I had to ask two waiters. The Tofu soup seafood, we need to request for a bowl and a spoon server where in fact, all of these should be automatically offered. We had lunch at 1:45PM and it was not crowded. No reason at all for the waiters to delay.

Food: Im not satisfied. The vegetables are not fresh. Tofu seafood soup, i can't find the seafood in the soup. Additionally, the tofu was not evenly cut. It's not enticing.

Atmosphere: Restrooms are okay. Some seats are not well-maintained. AC is not cold.

Although there's a 10% discount if you grill your own meat, but still we won't...

Ordered the ‘Egg crust - REFILL’ but when asked for a refill, they said I will need to order another portion. Reminded them that I ordered the egg from the menu and not the free one (if you ordered 2 portion of meat, you will get a free egg) and pointed out that the menu says ‘REFILL’ the waitress just said ‘it only says that on the menu’. (3 waitress gave the same answer mind you).

When the receipt came it also says ‘Egg Crust - REFILL’. So I dont know if this is just Magal Alam Sutera issue, or MAGAL franchise issue because we usually visited the Pondok Indah one, and always get a refill - also pointed this out and they said ‘di Magal lain iya bu; disini tidak’ in a not-so-nice tone 😅😅

Well, wont be coming back to Magal Alam Sutera anytime soon. So unfortunate considering we actually love...
