Square Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in West Nusa Tenggara

There was a large group of us and we were heading over to another local restaurant when this one caught our eye. Ample parking next door so we thought we would check it out. We were so happy we did! Besides the horrendously loud motorbikes out at sunset, once they buggered off, the experience was lovely. I can’t talk for the group as there were too many of us, but I did hear compliments about the spring rolls (Lumpia Udang Saus Pedas), traditional chicken and rice (Ayam Taliwang) was very flavoursome but quite chilli (for me anyway), Seared sea bass fillet, Caesar Salad, and desserts: apple pie, and crepes (Pisang Lose).

Edit: I got feedback from some of the group and it seems like the pasta dishes were bland and less favourable. Squid ink spaghetti (Spaghetti Al Nero di Seppia) and Spinach and Three Cheese Tortellini were both very average. The kids spaghetti lacked a red sauce and the meat was very under seasoned.

Overall opinion: If you feel like Asian food, this is the place to go!! If you want Italian, perhaps head elsewhere. I have been mislead by all the good reviews online.

Honestly this place looks great from the outside but after entering it didn't take long to realize this is just another tourist rip off.

The prices were though the roof and the quality of the food wasn't that great either.

But the worst was the unfriendliness of the staff and the poor customer service. First we had to wait long time to be served and place our order. Then after the food finally arrived we were asked multiple times during having the meal if we had finished eating... They seemed very keen to get you outa there ASAP and get someone else seated at the table.

At the end we payed about 1.000.000 for a 2 course meal between 3 people.

There are so many other places around which have fantastic reviews and which provide great food and customer service, but this place is surely not one of those.

At the end I could have had a whole day boat trip around the Gili island for 3 people paying the same money I spent at sqare and I'm sure I would have gotten a lot...
