10 stars is needed!!! It has been a while since I have got so excited about a restaurant, but this place makes me want to drive the 2 hours just to come back again! From the moment l saw the entrance and steps leading to the door, l got excited and l was desperately hoping that it would be as pleasing as the beautiful entrance suggested. I visited on Wednesday 24th August at 8pm. The decor was modern and well kept. We were greeted and seated with genuine warmth and the friendly Irish hospitality that you expect in Ireland. We ordered a Bramble and a Strawberry Daquiri, both arrived quickly and were delicious, with dried fruit decorating them. The ice in the Bramble was crushed, as it should be, rather than whole chunks. 1 example of the little things that this place does to add to the perfection. For starters we had goat cheese and brie. Both were perfect starter sizes and the flavours of the pickled beetroot, pear, elderflower, and the apple and cranberry chutney complimented both cheeses perfectly. We then had the burger, with a Bacon Jam and Tomato Pepper Relish, both which enhanced the flavour of the burger and did not overpower it or take away from the burger being the main taste. The Roast Chicken Supreme with Potato Fondant, Celeriac Puree and a Red Wine Jus was an upgraded take on a traditional Sunday Roast, once again with a combination of flavours that all flowed perfect together. I think my mouth was watering, even as l was devouring it. And it was hot!!! (Lukewarm food elsewhere on the previous night reminded me how so many restaurants don't put value on food being hot when it reaches the table). I could not and still can not fault this meal. My tastebuds were definitely tickled and expanded, but there was nothing so outrageous that it would scare off the less adventurous. I feel the menu was varied and prices were fair for the quality, work and talent that went into the food. Beautifully presented. The portion sizes were large enough that we were sufficiently filled but not uncomfortable. I decided to not push it and took my dessert to go. A moist and rich sticky toffee pudding. I always find 1 thing that I feel a place can improve on. Not here. The staff were attentive and picked up on the little details that just made the night perfect. Genuine ladies who were on the ball. Cleared plates etc in a timely manner. (My pet peeve is dirty plates left sitting for agggges). Noticed when we needed drinks. Brought a steak knife, clean cutlery and water without us having to ask, checked in on us, asked if we needed sauces. All the little things that so many places don't do. Everything was well timed and at no stage did we feel rushed, an inconvenience or just a number. We both felt relaxed and valued. There was a mix of customers including young and old, families, couples, girls night, boys night, business folk, everyone. For a Thursday night, it was really busy. It felt like a weekend. When we phoned to book, the only table we could get was at 8:15pm..... and I can see why.
Shades ticks everything that l want in a place to eat. It has all the little touches that make it a memorable visit, genuinely friendly staff and mouthwateringly delicious well...
Read moreShades in Cavan Town has earned its reputation for being a premium dining destination, and my visit to this establishment did not disappoint. I had the pleasure of savoring the Frank's hot sauce chicken wings and the succulent fettuccine pasta with chorizo and chicken.
The chicken wings were seasoned to perfection and had a lovely crispy texture, which added a delightful crunch to each bite. The hot sauce was just right, providing a spicy kick that was not too overpowering. It was a great way to start my meal.
The main course, the fettuccine pasta, was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The chorizo was cooked to perfection and added a lovely spice to the dish, while the chicken was juicy and tender. The parmesano cheese and rocket added a fresh and earthy flavor that rounded out the dish nicely.
To complement my meal, I had the sauvignon blanc white wine Marlborough new Zealand, which was exquisite. It was a delightful blend of crisp, fresh, and fruity flavors that paired perfectly with my meal.
Overall, my experience at Shades was delightful. The food was expertly prepared and beautifully presented, and the ambiance was inviting and comfortable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience...
Read moreFirst of the food is unbelievable. Have eaten here on four occasions and each time the food has been impeccable. The host/manager and staff is extremely pleasant and very welcoming. Sadly this is completely let down by other factors. The last two visits I've made to the restaurant we have been seated an hour later than our reservation. Within the last number of weeks I had a booking for 7pm, we weren't seated until just after 8pm. When we were seated we were informed that a large number of items on the menu were sold out, which can happen, so we proceeded to order from what was left. However when we tried to order we were informed that two items we ordered were also sold out. Eventually we ordered, however a couple of minutes later the waiter returned and informed us they were now sold out of what we had just ordered. At this point a good quarter to a third of the menu was unavailable to us.
Like I said the food is fantastic, staff were courteous and pleasant; sadly it's not enough to rescue it from being seated over an hour past a reservation only to be met with a very limited selection of foods. And for that reason I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend...
