Let me first say that we have been going to Gallo for over 10 years, and have never had a bad meal there, the food is always good and all the staff are pleasant especially Caroline who was always lovely to chat to, but our last experience (in the last week) was a little lacking, the new interior upgrades look great but the revamped menu didn't live up to its former glory, my personal favourites the formerly named formaggio di capra is now goats cheese salad and is missing both its roasted red pepper and pesto breadcrumb crust and has been substituted with raw red pepper and a spoon of pesto which left it down hugely, as for the penne zucchini which formerly had big chunks of charred zucchini and came with a little pot of extra parmesan to give it a little salty boost - it now had only small sparse pieces of zucchini that lacked any of the former delicious charred flavour and no extra parmesan was given, as for the other dishes around the table everything was nice but the comments were all the same that it just seemed to lack its previous extra flair that made it exceptional, the service was efficient but there was none of the former warmth - not once were we asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything, the water was left empty until we took it up to the counter and asked for a refill, and when we went to pay we were simply asked cash or card, no question of whether we enjoyed our meal or even a thank you when handing over the payment and receipt. Just a little disappointing that our special place seems to have lost its...
Read moreThis is an unusual one for me because it's the first time it ever happened. We were here on Mother's Day for my wife and we had a beautiful meal on our first visit here except for one thing. My wife, the mother in Mother's Day, got food poisoning. Now it not like a, are you sure it was our food moment. She vomited her guts up an hour after the meal, the doctor said it was food poisoning, she had to take time off work, we reported it to the food authority and most importantly, it has never happened to her before. The worst thing about it is that everyone else except my wife had a lovely meal and the food was excellent. Why am I writing this now, weeks later? It happened, that's why. I'm not one of these people who complain on the day and try get something back, it's just not something I do. When I go somewhere and the meal or service or anything else is bad, I just never go back. But here, like I said, for everyone else, the food and experience was good but it affected my wife so bad she actually said in the days afterwards that "she would never eat seafood out again!" By the way, it was the seafood casserole on the "Specials" menu. The old saying about never eat off the specials menu because it's just stuff they are trying to get rid of rings true. We were aware of this but... Anyway, it's hard to give a good review because of the circumstances and it wasn’t very cheap either so that's just the reality. My daughter has been back since for pizza and the pizza is delicious but none of the rest of us...
