AVOID IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO CELEBRATE WITH CAKE! We booked the Yellow Pepper to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. We are returning customers and have celebrated many family occasions here. When I asked the server for a knife to cut our cake I was told “No, the cake cannot be consumed on the premises.” When I went to pay the bill I asked the owner/manager why this was? She said, “what’s the point in me paying a chef if you’re having cake for dessert”. Some of our party did have dessert. She went on to say that no cake was allowed on the premises since 2018. I knew this to be untrue as we have had cake in recent years. I relayed this back to her which she dismissed immediately as untrue, I found the whole experience very rude and humiliating. I then had the embarrassing task of returning to the table and telling my guests that they couldn’t have any cake.
I have no issue with a policy like this, I do however have issue with being treated with such disrespect. I feel the manner and tone in which I was spoken to unacceptable. We will not be returning. Please do yourself a favour and ask before booking if you can bring your cake to save yourself the embarrassment. We have had birthdays, communions, confirmations here but apparently graduation cakes are the exception. Very...
Read moreThe menu sounds nicer than what it is.
I started with the mussels which were overwhelmed with heavy cream in the sauce, little other flavour was coming through. The actual mussels were tasty and well cooked though.
I then had seabass on a bed of smoked haddock and prawn risotto, which sounds lovely. The seabass was strange in that the skin hadn't been seared and was still soggy. Then it was garnished with assorted spices, fennel seeds and chilli, which you would never eat anyway. Because the fish was cooked slowly, the fat had leached out the side and congealed into a gloopy gelatinous edging. The risotto was so creamy and heavy it overwhelmed everything else on the plate and detracted away from a soft delicate fish. I had the garlic potatos which I made the wrong decision to pour on to the plate, along with a puddle of melted butter.
The menu sounds lovely but it's not well balanced. I felt like they were trying too hard to make things sound nice rather than delivering food that tastes nice or goes well together. I found the meal so heavy. The service was good, the staff pleasant, everything else was enjoyable, apart from the food. It was well cooked, it just...
Read moreNot worth it for the price. Throughout my life it's been one of the main restaurants you go to in Letterkenny when you want to go out for 'proper restaurant' food, and the restaurant aesthetic itself and the service is good. But the food has been letting it down for a while, and I and those I have been with have been disappointed with the quality of the food- particularly during the day. Most recently I paid €18.50 for lasagne (which was very hot on the outside and luke-warm in the centre) which was served with two of cold and stale bits of bruscetta - which was supposed to be garlic bread. My mum was also disappointed with the fish and chips she ordered - the chips were soggy and again, luke-warm and she felt the fish had been 're-cooked'. We couldn't be bothered complaining because the staff were pleasant and it feels like complaining doubles the negativity of the experience. Sorry for the bad review, but it seems like the only power a customer has these days unless they want to ask for a refund ( which feels and is somewhat unreasonable) is to leave a review. Hope the...
