O' Grady's on the Pier is our local restaurant in Barna. It is perched right on the seafront overlooking Barna Pier and the village beach. The charming, colourful building with its knooks and crannies and arty interior, is cosy and intimate and the views across the seafront are magnificent. O'Grady;s is renowned for its amazing, fresh seafood cooked to perfection and it is a beautiful restaurant for a group, a romantic dinner or a celebration.

Year-round this famous restaurant right on the Wild Atlantic Way is visited by tourists from all over the world, who flock here because of the countless recommendations. it never disappoints. Just last weekend much-loved Hollywood star Will Ferrell enchanted locals and the kids/teenagers of Barna when he visited O' Grady's on the Pier and Barna. This gorgeous place attracts many well known people each year delighted to visit this West of Ireland restaurant and get an autentic taste of the Atlantic. I recently held my 50th Birthday celebration here and it was fabulous - food, atmosphere, everything. The team of staff - Fiona, Mags, Jennifer and Petra are so professional and brilliant. If you haven't tried this restaurant yet - developed by local Galway man Mike O' Grady and owner of the fabulous Kirwan's Lane in Galway city - I thoroughly recommend it. In the summer, there is seating outside or overlooking the pier and it is heavenly - the waves gently lapping on the shore, the buzz of locals and tourists exploring Barna Pier and beach. People sitting out lapping up the sun and enjoying a glass of wine or pint of Guinness and a plate of mussels or oysters. Simply heaven! in the winter, snuggle up beside its roaring fire and enjoy the windswept beach and heart-warming atmosphere and food. #Galway; #Barna; #WildAtlanticWay Shauna Cunningham,...

we visited o'gradys pre covid and the food and service was exceptional, sadly on this occasion the service wasn't, through no fault of the staff on duty themselves just required more on duty, the welcome was good, we love the decor and the ambiance, firstly the menu's we were presented with were photo copies not good for a restaurant of this standard, the wine list consisted of wines complimentary to the menu, a shortened a'la carte but quality, the presentation and food quality was second to none, we had the pan-fried prawns and the feuilette of chickens for starters, medallions of monkfish and the sirloin steak for main courses, absolutely delicious, we ordered a bottle of wine and also wines by the glass, the restaurant was full downstairs and also upstairs where we were seated, there was only two staff upstairs, they did their best but for a restaurant of this standard it was sadly lacking, I mentioned it to the manager and he agreed also said they cant get staff, we had to pour our own wine and if I was looking for a staff member I had to get up from my seat and look for one, our bill was around 130 euro no desserts, if I'm spending that money I deserve a professional level of service, o' gradys have some soul searching to do, I would have expected linen napkins, either revert to a bistro style or get properly trained waiting staff, we were disappointed and won't be returning in the near future or recommending, jim and Jackie O'Connell, 5 star for food 2...

I was beyond excited to visit O’Grady’s having heard so many great things about this place! Expectations were extremely high 😅 But I’m happy to report that it blew me away 👏🏼

Located in the most stunning spot on Barna pier, overlooking Galway bay, O’Grady’s offer fresh local seafood with incredible views 😍

The bread to start was delicious! So fresh and tasty 🍞 It’s hard to beat the simple pleasure of good bread with real butter 🧈

What we ordered:

🍔 Prawn & Cod Burger - Charcoal Baby Gem, Tomato, Pickled Red Onion, Home Cut Fries, Curry Aioli.

This. Was. Sensational.

Had never had a seafood burger before so was a bit skeptical but it ended up being one of the best things I’ve ever eaten 🤤 On top of that, and I know this is a big call, but I think the chips might be the best chips I have ever had 🍟 And that curry aioli - wow 🫠

🐟 Seabass - Sauté Baby Potato, Chorizo, Spinach, Sauce Béarnaise. This was also delicious! Especially the sauté potato & the sauce👌🏼

Service was excellent. The two ladies running the show were friendly, cheerful and efficient 👏🏼

They serve lunch Friday - Sunday and dinner Tuesday - Sunday. It’s a very popular spot so reservations are recommended 😉

It was incredible value for money considering the generous portion sizes and quality of the food.

Dinner for 2 at 5pm. Seated up stairs lovely view of the beach and seated quickly. (Had reservation). To start the menu pricing was quite expensive. I’ve linked it in the photos. We started with a soup and pork belly. The pork belly was fantastic, perfect pairing and a lovely pallet, very complementing thoroughly enjoyed. 8/10 The soup was standard nothing to exciting but it’s soup. 7/10 Our mains were ok, my wife had the special of the day the black sole one the bone. It was ok but not what was expected of a €40 euro main and from somewhere that apparently prides its self on their seafood. 6/10 I got the aged steak again quite expensive, I asked for medium rare with a bit of pink. Was cooked through, like warm when I got it and honestly quite flavourless. We recieved very little sides with both our meal a bowl of potatoes. 3/10 The waiting staff stood at the bar chatting loudly telling each other stories about bath tubs of chickens and dreams they had, they were quite excitable and loud. They were more intent on each other than taking orders or getting our orders from the kitchen. Service 4/10 All in all I was very disappointed as I’d wanted to come here for a while and was an anniversary dinner. The price point food and service won’t have me coming back.

Oh, MY! My oh my! I waited over an hour to eat here because I arrived over an hour early. I wanted to eat upstairs but no such luck because they don't open it during lunch. I wouldn't, either, I suppose. The views of Galway Bay were unparalleled, and the nautical theme throughout the restaurant fit the vibe so flawlessly. We started with the prawns, and I dont think we could have chosen better. Meaty, sweet, and buttery. So divine! I wanted to order the seabass, but my husband did, and I was devastated because I needed to try more than one dish. So. I ordered the seafood linguine and savored every single bite. It was magnificent, to say the least. It was fresh and complex but subtle at the same time. Nothing overpowered or outshined the other in this dish. Every ingredient complimented the other and brought out the best in each and EVERY bite. I was jealous at first that my husband was getting the seabass, and I was totally gloating with pride with my linguine order after my first bite. But my husband's seabass was EQUALLY amazing. He only gave up 2 bites. I would come here again when or if I'm ever back in Galway. There is so much pride in the dishes, and you can taste the passion. Thank you for such an amazing lunch experience!
