Sadly this is on the outskirts of the town center. Which can put this in the back of your mind if you want to visit. This would be a big mistake as the food here is delicious. A lot of little extras make this a must to stop for a bite. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The decor is actually nice and cafe bright. It's well spaced and tables are actually well spaced. The food is fresh, and this place strives to make little fresh options a staple. On this day I saw the homemade Lemonade. And what a tangy treat on such a warm day. I noticed the fresh cakes, at the till when paying, but sadly too stuffed to try them. I choice I still regret to this day. Maybe they do take away? I ordered the Chorizo hash with a fried egg and Spinach. The smokey flavour made this dish a pallet pleaser. There were big pieces of Chorizo and they did not scrimp on this dish. If I were to make a suggestion, it would have been better with poached egg, remove the wedges, and served on top of a toasted slice of sourdough. But the potato wedges did help soak up the oily goodness from the Chorizo. And there was nothing that I didn't enjoy here. The Misses tried the French Toast, Bacon and maple. Hats off for using a brioche toast, probably not the healthiest choice. But when accompanying maple and bacon, I am glad they don't shy away and go full hog. I am not a sweet dish fan, but this was well done with a hint of a crunch. The bacon, is on the beef jerky side, this is perfectly cooked. The softness of the toast, the sweet maple and the chewy saltiness of the bacon is a perfect trio and would recommend this. In fact, I have wanted to eat here for a long time. My Misses had always suggested it. But due to its location, I don't find myself in this area of town. But I am glad to finally eat here and was not disappointed, so I would definitely...
Read moreRecommended by a friend, we went to the one on Spencer St first on Tuesday afternoon but upstairs coffee was closed down. We were told to try the one on New Antrim St. Walked about 10 minutes we got there. Small but cosy. Three of us sat down at the table, ordered each individual favourite drink and cake. I ordered Crumble with custard sauce and I was told no Custard and offered cream instead. There was not much flavour and very little crumble base. My husband ordered fruit scone that he loves to have with tea all the time. When the scone came, he couldn’t see any raisins and took to the till to ask can he have raisins scone. He was told that is it and raisins are inside(very unfriendly girl!!) Cut it into half and searched, found ONE raisin! Terrible! Showed them and changed a new one with THREE more raisins! Very pricy fruit scone!! My son ordered Homemade lemonade drink €3.50 -he had one sip and never wanted to touch again. I tasted- no lemonade flavour at all! Where are those “friendly staffs” people recommended?! Very pricy €20 for 2 teas 1 lemonade and 2 slices cakes 1 scone -dearer than Avoca but the quality can’t compare a bit! Very disappointed experience. We’ll never keen to visit Again and...
Read moreCafe Rua was recommended to me by a friend who lives locally. Overall very disappointing and I won’t be back. The coffee was very average, nowhere near the quality of specialty coffee. The food was adequate although it would be nice to be offered preserves with toast. The lady who took my order was very friendly and helpful. The colleague who brought the coffee and food to my table practically threw it at me, the toast slid off the plate. This individual would benefit from some customer service training. I paid at the till and had to wait for 2 other team members to finish their conversation before one of them deigned to serve me. Really disappointing overall and a shame that this was the last food business we visited after a week in Mayo as it really made a poor impression and left a bad taste after experiencing such fantastic hospitality elsewhere. Try elsewhere if...
