Lana Castlebar Asian Street Food — Restaurant in County Mayo

Lana is Asian inspired fast food, and not to sound mean, but authentic is questionable choice of words I wouldn't use. Perhaps not the healthiest... But it tastes good. That being said hubby was disappointed with the thin egg noodles. There was a bit of a taste on them. We just arrived at opening so the noodles were just out. Shame they used to have the medium fried egg noodles... Those where to die for. A sad omission from the menu. The standard dishes are good. And if you like them you'll love them. Hubby liked his teriyaki Chicken. But if he went back he wouldn't have ordered it again. The pieces were too thin and shallowed fried just a touch too long. It was too sweet, and not salty or tangy enough. Wifey's duck, well she liked it. But Hubby felt it was over-fried. The thinner end pieces came out very chewy. And of course it's duck dish so there aren't many pieces to begin with. Of the menu there are very few things that would tempt me to pick. My personal choice, so if you like the plates you'll love the food. Perhaps I am being harsh. Having visited and eaten in Bangkok, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan it's hard to give a fair review and harder to compare. What I will say, from previous visits, the best thing on the menu has now gone. Has hubby mentioned his love for medium egg fried noodles. Wok fried onions and broccoli would be perfect. Such a Shame. But to be fair maybe I have to try more dishes. The place is well lit and beautifully decorated. The toilets are clean. The other disappointing thing is the lack of desserts. Understandable as true Asian desserts are few and far, plus the ingredients are impossible to find for them. You can avail of the free whippy ice cream which is nice. Nice place but left with sour taste. This is the second time I have visited Lana Castlebar and the last visit was a 5 star review. This time things didn’t go so well for me and the actions of the manager was very poor. I ordered the sweet chilli chicken with fried rice and was hugely disappointed 😢. I have had chilli chicken many times in many restaurants and the sweet chilli sauce is a drizzle and not over powering. Unfortunately this chilli chicken was drowned in chilli sauce and when I added the rice everything became a goop and was overpowering and made me feel ill 🤢. I sent it back and the lovely waitress offered to change my dish but I wasn’t feeling well and decided to decline. When I went to pay I was getting charged for the meal I couldn’t eat and asked for it to be removed from the bill. The lovely young waitress informed me that her supervisor told her to make me pay as their was nothing wrong with the food. I asked to speak with the manager but was informed he went on his break and went home. The young lady was terribly worried and I let her know that it was not her that had to be worried and her manager put her in an awful position. The manager could have come and talked with me before he left but didn’t. I informed the lady I would not pay for food that was unpalatable and that I sent back and she kindly took it off the bill. I would still recommend this place to eat but beware of the attitude of the manager if you have issues. I would have scored Lana a lot lower but it was saved by the kind waitress with common sense ….....

Visited Lana's restaurant in Castlebar with my friend last night...both of us really like the food there (normally). However, last night's experience wasn't what we expected...waited for food 50 minutes only to learn that they had firgotten about us...then they brought our starter and main all at the same time...starter (calamari) was not great and we couldn't eat it, but the weitress didn't even ask us was the food not ok since we didn't touch it...crispy duck was tasty, but not crispy 🤔 ...so overal it was a disappointment really...when leaving they didn't even give us a complementary item, which I would certainly consider with an attempt to keep my clientel after a very poor service...i normally don't leave bad reviews, but I kinda felt that I am entitled to get what I pay for, but I didn't feel that was the case this time at all... The manager has contacted me and resolved this..very professional...went in to eat there again and both food and the service...
