McHugh's Cafe — Restaurant in County Mayo

Really good cafe, some really fantastic light bites. A healthy option with plenty of taste.

McHugh's serves a special blend of loose tea and seriously tasty, but a little strong towards the end of the pot. So you might want more hot water halfway through.

I had the mini mini breakfast, which is sausages, bacon, beans, soda bread and tomato. A dish that you would say was a confused breakfast and left me a little stumped. But honestly I was so surprised by several things. First the breakfast was not greasy at all, and it was enjoyable to actually taste the food. The bacon was divine, smoked cured and something you will not find in many cafe's. The dish was not a typical Irish breakfast, but should be the norm in Ireland.

Staff is young, friendly and has a goofy charm about them. Very pleasant people.

I am still puzzled as the food looked fried, but not convince it actually was. The only critisims I have was our plates were served separately, only by a minute. And service was ever so slightly slow, which I am putting down to the extra care and thought put into the plate. It's actually so refreshing to taste food as cafes will often over use frying and often do it wrong in first place. Nice food but I don't understand the tiny portions of the drinks. They make lovely iced coffee drinks but they are in a small plastic cups and similar prices to Starbucks which are in much bigger cups. I am from Ireland originally but lived in US for a long time and always notice with the privately owned coffee shops they give such small portions of the iced drinks and on a hot day you would need more. When you take the Ice put youd maybe have a few sips and it's gone. I guess I am just used to larger drink...

Frequent the cafe in Castlebar regularly, which is lovely. I had to take my car to Ballinrobe to the dealership and work was gonna be cpl hrs so decided we would visit McHughs there.
