Micheline restaurant in Athlone. Every dish was delicious yet exquisite. Size of Yorkshire pudding threw us away when it got served 😆 Recommend to get Ham hock starter. We shared between two and almost fight for the last spoon. I had the duck main and it was falling apart from bone and no knife work was needed. On the other hand, beef was a little tough to cut them. They gave the normal knife and we had to ask for steak knife. In the middle part was not edible to chew but the rest was gorgeous. It’s a shame that we again had to share the dessert because we were too full. Some Christmas parties were going on right next table so it was quite loud time to time. Definitely would like to come back for dinner after Christmas.

Thyme is Athlone’s best known secret, all tables were fully booked and there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was beautifully presented. The menu represented modern Irish cuisine, celebrating Irish ingredients. The wine list was vast, interesting, and well priced. We found that we were rushed into ordering quite quickly upon arrival. We booked a 20h30 table and understood that orders needed to be in before 21h but were approached by staff three times before we were ready. Perhaps if each month’s menu was available online to view in advance (rather than a sample menu) we’d have been able to order faster and not felt quite as under pressure. Despite this, it was an excellent meal overall.

We first discovered Thyme Restaurant when we were looking for a place to eat en route from Dublin to Roscommon. We enjoyed the food so much that next time we went on holiday we planned a night in Athlone to hit this restaurant. When we visited there were two set menus, one a little more simple and the other more elaborate and interesting. The food combinations build a lot of flavours together in a very interesting way. The lamb and gnocchi was exceptional. We thought the prices very reasonable for food of this quality. The staff are all very friendly and our return trip did not disappoint. Highly recommend this as a stop off point on the way out to the West of Ireland or as a destination itself.

My husband and I chose Thyme Restaurant in Athlone for a romantic dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the entire experience was truly special from start to finish.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic celebration, with tasteful decor and a cozy atmosphere.

The food was of the highest standard. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. We were particularly impressed with the portion sizes, which were generous enough to leave us feeling very satisfied by the end of our meal.

The service was both friendly and professional. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, adding to the overall excellence of the evening. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made our anniversary dinner all the more memorable.

We will definitely be returning to Thyme Restaurant very soon. For anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Athlone, I highly recommend this gem...

My first experience at a Michelin recommended restaurant and it did not disappoint. My wife and I both got the value menu. We didn’t plan to, but the items looked better to our tastes. The value menu is convenient for couples because there are essentially two options per category. We simply chose opposite options and shared everything, getting the chance to try all but 1 fish, the vegetarian main course, on the value menu.

Everything was wonderful. The starters leading up to the main course were adventurous and exposed us to foods we normally do not eat. There were no “acquired tastes” necessary, everything was pleasant to our common palette.

The main courses we were served were lamb and hake, with sides. Everything was delicious. The lamb breast confit with wild garlic butter is among the two best things I have ever tasted, alongside a Beef Wellington I had years ago. My wife will forever tease me about the audible noise I made when I took my bite.

Dinner finished with tasty desserts and flat whites. A wonderful...

Cozy yet a little cold restaurant tucked away in a quiet street in Athlone Town.

We decided to come here as to avoid a long drive to Dublin to bring my mother for her birthday dinner. She is vegan, so midlands is not very welcoming for her.

While John has been very good at preparing a separate menu listing for my mother and decorating her desert plate with very tidy chocolate hand writing, the food offered for her was very bare and basic.

All 4 of us had a consensus that the portions we're a bit too small and mom ended up making food at home 2 hours after the meal.

While 2 of us did enjoy what we we're offered, the other 2 members of the party we're disappointed. I think the general consensus was that we would not return as we couldn't find value in what was...
