Called to the Millhouse last Friday morning to book a table for 4 on Saturday at 6pm and explained we had always booked a table with chairs by the window in the glass area. For the first time ever, I was told by Hugh that they can not reserve a table, which I was surprised at, as we always reserved a table before and my brother has a bad back and need to apply a seat support. He told me some table will be available for us at that time.
To our great surprise, when we arrived, the table that I had asked to book was reserved with a sign on it. I questioned Hugh about this and received a dismissive reply with a great amount of arrogance 'that we are not regulars'. When the rest of our party arrived, we decided to stay because the rain and weather was so bad outside, it was too late to go elsewhere.
Not that I should explain: We are regulars as we all like very close by. We will not be regulars again.
The rest of the staff treated us with great respect, however, this gentleman named Hugh that seems to be the main manager of the eating area, showed us nothing but arrogance and disrespect and this has made me write this review. As regulars and neighbours to the Millhouse for over the last 50 years we would like others to know of our experience and will continue to spread the news of our very disappointing experience locally. Before leaving, we confirmed the Hugh's name with a...
Read moreI had been going to the millhouse for carvery every Sunday for the last few years. The floor staff are lovely, good humoured and helpful.
Their carvery has become inconsistent in quantity and, for me, has been on the miserable side on a few occasions. One day I was handed a plate of beef crumbs rather than slices.
Yet again, Was given 2 thin slices of meat recently which was the last straw. The chef tends to be generous with my buddy which feels unfair. I pointed this out to the manager taking payment but he dismissed my comment saying "that looks like a good plate of food to me." Well it wasn't to me and I am paying for it.
Last weekend I opted for a BLT which was pathetic. 2 miserable bits of toast, a slice of tomato and one tiny piece of bacon. I left hungry.
In fairness the evening menu is nice and I would recommend the lasagne, very nice burgers and chicken. As for the carvery I don't like to have to argue to get decent, fair portions (which are expensive enough).
I had mentioned I will not being using the carvery from now which is such a shame as it...
Read moreWe were out for a meal today on Mothers Day and came in for the carvery. We often visit the Mill House and have never had such a rude experience before. After having our meal and were having a couple of drinks after, we were told that the table was needed for customers arriving after us and we had no issue with this. As soon as we were told, the bill was brought to our table unrequested and slammed down on the table as a very obvious gesture to encourage us to leave. We were not told about any time limits or reservations, we had not stayed an inordinate amount of time, we spent over €100 on food and drinks. It’s was extremely rude and was very clearly a money grab ‘pay up and get out’. We could have moved to another table or been offered some other substitution if someone needed our table. Highly disappointing behaviour for fairly regular customers. Honestly have been discouraged from ever...
