This pub used to be known as Long's and has completely changed.
The original Arthur Mayne's is in Cork and this is their first pub in Dublin.
Tiled floors set the scene in this pub modelled on an old chemist's shop, expect pharamacist's bottles and cameras, one section has an open fire and hosts traditional music sessions, another section has dozens of wines to choose from by the glass and another has a tv so you can choose the area you prefer.
This is a pub in which to try the food. The chef beavers away visible through a hatch behind the bar, creating good solid meals that are a level above typical pub grub but not overpriced.
The sharing platters (herbivore, carnivore and pescatore) are great value with chips and many sides, dips included from €21. As a cheaper option, try the triple decker for €8.95 that includes chips and a side salad.
The owners also brew their own craft beers. The Handsum IPA is particularly good and Mi Daza is a stout, like Guinness only with chocolate hints. There are regular beers on tap as well wine.
I have only recently discovered Arthur Mayne's and will be coming back especially as the friendly staff help to make it a pleasant...
Read moreUpdate: I had a very questionable experience there. I went there to get the burger and was told that I could only get it “well done” to make sure there would be no bacteria in it. Now I question every dish there. I was never told I could only get well done burgers “to be” on the safe side. I am not sure if I am going back there for food or could recommend the place as I did before, and I am lowering my score from 5 to 3 stars. And lastly, I had the worst seafood chowder there. All the ingredients were there but the mix was just off.
Original: I found this place by accident. I have seen them before but thought they were just a bar. They are so much more than that! Great ambience, crazy good food and amazing drinks, totally blew my mind and their service is phenomenal. At this point, I have been there enough to say: the food and drinks are consistently good, even when they are busy. Also they have their own beer and it is amazing. The Guinness equivalent is worth trying! The duck and the burger are...
Read moreI would like to say a huge thanks to the staff of this charming bar. I have popped in here before for a Friday night drink and thought it was a great place to have a chat with friends with a fantastic selection of wine. The next time I visited, I ate here with my partner on a Monday night and the food was much tastier than that of normal bar food served in other places. And thirdly, I held my 30th birthday bash here Saturday week ago. The staff catered for all my needs. They were very accomodating throughout the night. The manager and owners should be very proud of this bar and the atmosphere that they...
