True insider tip, hidden in the back of an industrial estate one would not expect this jewel of culinary excellence! If you want the ordinary Thai cuisine typical for Ireland you are wrong in this restaurant, because even my taste buds were surprised about the 1000 wonders they experienced. A warm and welcoming front desk (covid approved) lead to a friendly member of staff who took our temperature; a cleaned and sanitised pen was provided for the new normal registration. Social distanced seating (again freshly sanitised) and a friendly; and very patient lady took our order. What can go wrong with some squid, chicken wings and spring roll? Well, now that I had them at Khow Thai I know that a lot goes wrong in all the other Asian restaurants I visited so far all over Europe. The mains proved that quality beats quantity every time! Instead of insanely overloaded plates you get just the perfectly sized dish of your choosing, lovely presented so that not only your mouth but also your eyes have a good time eating here. And although there were guests waiting in their cars for seating, noone stressed out or put pressure on the already seated guests. This restaurant is celebrating Thai cuisine and hospitality from the moment you enter this temple of heavenly food. And only the gods know where the chef found his way down to our Galway secret tip.

Their pad kee mao is not made with traditional flat noodles and with Chinese lo mein?? And when I received the take out order it doesn’t come with much at all. I’ve been to Thailand, I’m from New York City and everywhere else I’ve been to Pad Kee Mao has never been made without wide flat noodles. There’s also zero basil in this it’s very inauthentic. Its location is also in the back of a warehouse area? And nobody mans the front desk. My husband and I were standing at the front to order not being helped until he walked to the back to signal someone in the kitchen. When we finally got someone, we asked if they take Amex cards because we knew some places don’t take it in Ireland so we asked if we could ring up our order to check, and if it doesn’t work we’d come back with another card and she said she would not ring up the order until the food was prepared. What? I’m offering to pay before you even make the food for THEIR convenience. Makes no sense. 10/10 would not recommend.

My braised rib Hange Rae was a heavy meal but it was very well seasoned and the curry complimented the saffron fried rice really well. My husband chose the Pho Bo (bo is beef, gai is chicken fyi). It came with mint, cilantro and sriracha sauce instead of the traditional lime, Thai basil leaves, hoisin sauce and sriracha sauce. It creates a different flavor profile so up to you if you are a traditionalist like me when it comes to classic dishes whether you would like the changes. I personally wouldn’t so it’s good I opted for the braised rib. My son had the fried chicken and white rice off the kids menu and he said it was good. We got the chocolate fudge dessert which was more like a brownie and my kids had the ice jelly which is vanilla ice cream on top of strawberry jello. The location is crazy unexpected being inside an industrial estate so it’s a nice hidden gem. The place is tiny but they were able to provide a high chair for my toddler. We would come back. Delish.

TL,DR; delivery was horrible / mediocre food, thats very overpriced, but good service who were patient and took complaints seriously and sorted it out quick.

Ordering: We phoned in for a delivery, which arrived at exactly the time I requested. Staff on phone were friendly too, so there is absolutely no complains about service.

Food: Food was incredibly disappointing and way too overpriced. We got the red duck curry, kha phaow beef, massaman lamb curry, boiled rice, fried rice, fried noodles, and a portion of stir fried vegetables.

The red duck curry was nothing impressive, a VERY overwhelming taste of coconut milk and almost no other flavours other than sweetness.

The kha phaow beef was a glorified szechuan beef. Amount of beef served was ok.

Massaman lamb was probably the biggest disappointment of all. The dish was served with 4-5 small pieces of lamb altogether, about 2 pieces of potato, and virtually no other veg. The taste was mediocre either, literally no saving grace, all for the price of 16 euros.

Boiled rice was nothing wrong, but the fried rice and fried noodles were not great. The fried rice and noodles had no flavour whatsoever, and were so light in colour I wondered if they had bothered with soy sauce at all. The noodles were soggy, and the fried rice felt like they had been kept in oil. I have personally had FAR better.

We complained (I like to believe it was justified) about the massaman curry but were told “the dishes are weighed before they get sent out”. We received a box full of sauce, the takeaway box being 500ml.

To be fair to the service staff we were offered a refund or credit for the next time.

In summary, do not bother with takeaway/delivery. If you want a chance at having good food here, maybe consider dining in. Seems to be good quality considering the other reviews, I have no idea how they could be this bad for...
