O'Hehirs Bakery, Patisserie, Cafe — Restaurant in Galway

I don't know how else to put it. Possibly the worst cake I've ever had. We were feeling for a dense chocolate cake (like the Matilda chocolate cake) and thought the chocolate fudge cake for 38 euros (although really expensive) would be just what we were looking for, we were sadly mistaken. The cake certainly looked the part but it tasted horrible and I felt sick after having a slice, they overloaded this thick butter cream icing (which didn't have a nice chocolatey taste) but an artificial sweetness that you generally try to avoid when you buy chocolates(or in other words they made too much of the icing and decided instead of letting it go too waste let's just use it all in the cake). Tasted very cheap. We literally deconstructed the slices of cake to get rid of the absorbent icing which made it edible at best without the icing. Wow for a bakery that's been around since before I was born, I reckon I could bake a better tasting cake with 10 euros. Do they ever do a taste test of their cakes I wonder. I would avoid this place. I was in here earlier today and I was absolutely disgusted at the way an older customer was treated! We were just finishing up our food when I heard a server raising her voice to an older lady sitting at the next table. The lady was waiting for her daughter before she ordered her food. She simply told the server that she was waiting for her daughter. The server aggressively told her "you cannot sit here until you have ordered your food". The lady tried explaining that she was waiting for her daughter. That wasn't enough... Another staff member came over telling the lady "you cannot sit here. That table is for people who have already ordered their food". So now there were two servers standing over her as if it wasn't embarrassing enough for her. All the nearby tables could hear them. The lady again tried explaining that she was just waiting for her daughter. These two staff members were so horrible to her. It was absolutely disgusting to see. The poor lady was absolutely mortified. There was another table at the wall that the people ordering could have sat at. I offered the lady our table as we were leaving. She seemed a lovely lady and visibly upset and embarrassed. I was genuinely upset myself for a good while after witnessing the way they treated her....

When I came in here to pick up my granddaughters communion cake I thanked the man at the till. He then stated that I shouldn't be so fast to assume someone's gender. I was surprised to hear this from a middle aged Irish man. When I said I'd like to speak to someone in charge as I paid a lot for the cake and deserve respect.
