Not a Michelin Experience
We visited Mulcahy’s after several locals recommended it and were intrigued by the menu and glowing reviews referencing “Michelin-level” quality. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of that standard.
The staff was friendly, but no one seemed to take ownership of our table — a basic expectation at any restaurant positioning itself in Michelin territory. Service began promisingly but deteriorated as the evening went on. After finishing our main courses, we waited quite a while for plates to be cleared. When a server eventually returned and asked if we’d like dessert menus, we said yes — but over 20 minutes passed without a follow-up. By then, we’d lost interest and asked for the check. We then watched the same server make multiple trips to restock the bar. After another 10 minutes with no sign of the check, I eventually walked to the bar to ask for it directly — it was never brought to us.
As for the food: my wife’s filet was cooked to temperature, while my Beef Wellington — ordered rare — arrived medium-well. The pastry was fine, but both cuts were tough, made worse by dull steak knives.
Others around us seemed to enjoy their meals, so maybe we were just the unlucky table that night. Still, based on this experience, I wouldn’t return — and I wouldn’t feel comfortable...
Read moreSimply stunning! We were there during our holiday and I have never stopped thinking about the amazing dinner experience we had! Food is absolutely top notch, beautifully presented and the menu definitely stands out. We had a fantastic starter with the amazing duck egg with asparagus and hollandaise sauce, which had the perfect grade of acidity! Then we had a gorgeous Beef Wellington and, oh my God, a Guinness pie that was to die for. Don’t think about the usual Guinness pie, it was something on a totally another level, and I speak as a traditional Guinness pie lover. As a dessert, a lovely Alaska. I would also like to mention the wonderful staff. For a mistake of ours we arrived 1 hour later than when we had booked, and despite this the beautiful blond girl who welcomed us at the door was incredibly kind and professional. We were struck by this and thank you, indeed. Will...
Read moreHonestly, I was disappointed with my experience here, given this is meant to be one of Kenmare upper establishments. For me the issue was that I went here when I was fairly hungry, so I ordered a starter and a main, but the issue was that portions served to us were very small. Like prawns in garlic starter consisted of small dish with 5 or 6 smallish prawns on in a pool of garlic oil, not particularly tasty or filling (no bread included to dip in the garlic oil) . My main was the fish pie, which again very small and it did not come with any sides like potatoes or veg. Now I am aware that portions in high end restaurants tend to be small, but not that small, so is not really a place I could recommend to be honest. However, to end on a positive note though, the staff were indeed friendly and welcoming...
