I'm a Coffee lover, I make my own espresso at home, I've studied it thoroughly, I'm certainly not an expert or professional but I have a good knowledge of Coffee. The Coffee was ok, better than the usual "rubbish" you are given in Ireland. It was a little burnt, temperature too high on the machine I expect. I asked for a Flat White but that I'd "say when" on the milk as I really wanted what I've been told is a Cortado (not on the menu), about half the milk of a Flat White. The woman working the machine contradicted me about it being a Cortado, she said something about froth, I can't argue it, it's what Nicks Coffee in Wicklow said it was, and I'm inclined to believe them as they are excellent in every way. I don't drink cow's milk so I had oat milk. They charged 50c extra for it. I know they are not alone in that. I think it's wrong and mean. A litre of oat milk is about €2 or less, I can't see why any cafe would charge extra for it. Let alone 50c for about 20Ml. I was charged the initial price of a Flat White, which is Coffee & Milk, they saved on the cow's milk which I didn't have but gave no reduction for that, and I had about half the amount of oat milk that would go in a Flat White, it makes no sense. In my opinion it's just greedy and grabbing your hard earned euro in any way that can think up and get away with. They've some work to do on the Coffee and attitude to deserve the PR and apparent ego of the place. I won't be back. But to be fair I'm addressing this to Coffee connausoirs, so if you are happy enough with the Coffee you get in general in Ireland, or have lattes etc or mostly milk sugar drinks, you'll probably think here good. And compared to that it is. Compared to Nicks in...
Read moreEmma, the owner, is an incredible woman with will and passion and an enormous heart. She symbolizes the strength of love and kindness and transmits so much of what she believes in: excellence in hosting, welcoming, best quality products, organic food, green policy ( cups and stuff) and true service. She makes you feel at home straight away and even with the place full, she treats you like you’re unique. I am blessed to have met her, and she is to me a model to follow, along with Michael, the Baker, who delights our taste buds with the love and precision he puts in creating the best viennoiserie and pastry and bread ever. I’d say that wherever you are in Ireland, this stop at Maison Gourmet is mandatory, as it is a true experience, for everyone. I am French and I vouch for the pleasure you’ll get out of everything you try. Mike and Emma, thanks for such a warm welcome, I feel honored and blessed to have...
Read moreI hadn’t visited since they relocated to a larger premises. Large pastry and food cases make it easy to see what is available. French pastries and bread are Devine! A large menu board with drinks and specials is near the entrance. The cozy decor and soft music add to the authenticity of this patisserie. I had a yummy chocolate eclair and my friend has an apple pastry called croustade. We drank coffee and Maison gourmet artisan hot chocolate. Savory and sweet dishes are available from their pastry cases. Hard decisions were made! Highly recommend this place in Kenmare town, Co....
