I was weary of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance. I soon understood the probable reasons for them. The service is super chaotic and non professional.
It was only me and another table in the entire restaurant but they got two of my three dishes wrong.
I ordered boiled rice and stir fried chilli beef brisket with leak and coriander.
I specifically decided against the other beef dish because it has pineapple and I don't eat pineapple outside India (I am not a fan of canned fruits in my food).
Alas, instead of boiled rice the waiter brought egg fried rice.
It looked good so I told him he can leave it (I doubt anyone on the lone table besides me was intending to order egg fried rice in the following 60 seconds).
He refused my request and left the beef dish on the table. It was the one with pineapple I did not order. I had to catch a bus so I had no time to wait for a replacement which is why I ate the pineapple beef and didn't say anything.
I then realised that the crew probably knew they were giving me the wrong dish because when I was waiting for my starter (shredded potatoes which was tasty because I like very spicy 🌶 food but missed a key ingredient - green onion) for a long 24 minutes I read the menu out of boredom and suddenly the young non-chinese waitress came and took it from my hands.
The sizzling pineapple 🍍beef 🥩 is 16 Euros, the stir fried chilli beef is 18 Euros. As I feared I was charged 18 Euros (receipt attached).
The beef was mostly edible (besides two pieces that were not chewable and left on the rice plate) but the overall quality was wanting and surely not deserving 18 Euros...
I came on a bus and wanted to see when it leaves so I asked for the WiFi password.
The network name is Orient and the signal is excellent but the uninterested waiter said there is no wifi (clearly there is. Their policy is not to give the password to customers).
I then decided to take the train instead as I can see when it leaves to Mullingar on the digital board in the station.
I asked for directions to the train station and the waiter spoke/shouted them while seated at the other end of the restaurant.
The music was American soul music which wasn't bad but I would prefer listening to Chinese hits.
The second star is because they have Tsingtao beer which is one of my favourite commercial beers (on a side note the 2 Euros extra I was charged can buy you a filling beef soup in China. If you add the 3 Euros tip that I left it comes to 5 Euros which buys you the same amount of food I ate in a roadside stall in China 🇨🇳 plus it is...
Read moreWe live about 7 mins from the orient, just outside Maynooth and have ordered from there many times without issue. We love the food. However, we had some issues with the delivery of our order this evening. Upon arrival, before I even said hello, the driver told me I had to pay him another €3 for delivery. I told him that this was not disclosed to us at the time of order through JustEat. He showed me a receipt with a €2 delivery charge printed on it, which was crossed out in pen with €5 written on it instead. He told me to phone the restaurant.
I phoned the restaurant and they confirmed this was genuine. They took payment over the phone. The woman I spoke to said that they had to pay the drivers more to come out to my area. I said that I appreciated that, but that it should be listed on JustEat before purchase, as it puts customers in a very difficult position. She said that JustEat don't allow them to adjust the delivery charge by area, but that she would take it up with JustEat again. It is not an acceptable solution to charge customers after the fact, if JustEat don't allow to change delivery fees, then you should adjust your delivery area.
This is obviously a very small amount of money and we would generally tip our drivers around that anyway, but you are putting your drivers in an impossible position making it a mandatory fee. I felt blindsided and awkward when the driver said this to me, as I was not sure exactly how much I had in cash, plus it seemed like a scam. At first I felt the driver could have handled it better, as he seemed confrontational, but on reflection there is no good way to present this to a customer. I am very disappointed in how this has been implemented. I genuinely could not imagine a...
Read moreDisgraceful carry on from staff and management. Terrible manners. Ordered here several weeks ago From just eat for delivery. Was waiting 1.5hours for two sushi rolls to be delivered into an estate in Maynooth. Was told they’d look after me next time and just to ask for the manager, as they had my details on file associated with my number.
I went in last night to order more sushi in person, was told they had no rice left for sushi, asked if I could sit for a minute as I was waiting on someone. They then proceeded to tell me they were closing and to order Chinese because they’ve no sushi left. I explained that I was waiting for someone and I recollected my previous conversation with them, she stressed she was the manager, and I asked them to pull up my account details, they claimed they had no details of my account or previous order, yet the manager confirmed she recollected my previous order and that conversation while her and her male colleague laughed and sniggered at me.
Food average or mediocre at best, also over priced for what it is, only ever go here for sushi as it’s the only in the area. Disgraceful way they treat customers, by humiliating, belittling and sniggering at them. Incredibly shocked and won’t be giving any additional support, and I’ll be sharing my experience with others and advising against for...
