A mixed experience. We were a party of 4 and 2 of us were delighted with the food and the other two weren't. We went for the 2 course special. Our starters were lovely (I had the yuk sung, but their menu labelled it slightly differently) and it was delicious. One of us had chicken in a fruity sauce and was disappointed.
Out mains were a each different. Mine was the yeung chow / special fried rice and I struggled. The rice was cooked perfectly but unseasoned and bland. The prawns were frozen, so I left them to one side. Two others loved their meals.
The wine was pleasant, the service good, but the atmosphere lacked any intimacy and the part of the restaurant looked like it was used as a storage overflow. None of this is unusual for rural Ireland, in my experience, but stands out when you're visitor.
It has to be said that this place seems to have a high reputation locally, so perhaps our experience was atypical. It was early evening, about 6pm, on a Friday...
Read moreI was never more surprised by a restaurant as I was by this one, from the moment we walked through the door the fabulous staff took great care of us, on reading the menu I couldn't help but notice the value for money, a starter and a main course with a drink of your choice for €25.95, I was sceptical about the quality but all I can say is wow, the food was delicious, Yuk sung and satay chicken starter were lovely, the Satay sauce was perfect. The Szechuan chicken was deliciously spicy and sweet but all I can say the star of the show was the crispy duck with plum sauce. I enjoyed every mouthful of food. To make sure I wasnt to thirsty I opted for a Tsingtao beer which was cold and crisp. A big thank you to all at Ipoh for a fabulous food and brilliant service. I will most definitely will...
Read moreThis was a great find - went here on a Sunday evening. Rang ahead for a table but there were seats when we arrived. Our waiter a young man with dark hair was excellent, super helpful, engaging and service was so quick. I wish I got to thank him but he was off on holidays soon when we were chatting to him. 😄 Food was delicious - the only thing I will say is my chicken satay was too watery and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did my starter. Lovely atmosphere, lots of families , couples and lovely music playing. We will definitely be back and will bring friends the set course is absolutely fantastic value - 25 euro for a starter , main and drink. For your drink there is something for everyone - wine, beer and soft drinks. Definitely a must go...
