My family and I have been getting takeaway/going to là locandina since it first opened and would be quite loyal and frequent customers. We’re always so pleased with food and one of the owners Simone is usually quite pleasant once there is isn’t an issue. Unfortunately recently, it’s just gone down hill big time, we kept giving it another chance as it was so nice before and the food can’t be faulted, but the toilets the last time we ate out there were to be quite honest, dirty, dust that had been there for weeks and the takeaway service has become very poor, things forgotten, long delays etc. and this has become quite consistent. Tonight was the last straw, I ordered one calzone online, was told the order wasn’t there when I came to collect, my wife put the order in, walked all the way back to my car to ring my wife and she sent me the email of confirmation, I showed Simone the confirmation and she laughed and said it was on the other screen. I didn’t even mind that but she then went back and said it’ll be another 5 minutes- it hadn’t even been made. The order was put in 40 minutes prior online, I deliberately waited longer to collect as it has been slow recently. I waited 10 minutes and asked how much longer, Simone usually doesn’t recognise me because my parents would usually speak with her and eat in the restaurant more. Maybe she would of been friendlier if she did recognise me, but this is besides the point, she didn’t apologise for the delay which has happened a few times now, just a complete lack of acknowledgment of the problem. She just handed me the box and told me it was hot. I’m honestly really disappointed to be writing this and we did give it so many chances because it’s a family run independent business, and the food most of time is beautiful. I didn’t bring it up in person as I feel when there has been mistakes in the past, she never apologises and I don’t think complaining/criticism would be received well, and as I can see from previous reviews, the responses are usually passive aggressive if they are any way negative. This review is purely to be constructive not harmful because I couldn’t fault it before and the food really is beautiful! I really hope it goes back to the standard it was before, a simple apology goes a long way, I work in the service industry myself. Customers are usually much more forgiving when you give a genuine apology rather than try shrug off and not acknowledge the problem. We really hope to come back if service...
Read moreThis is a gem!!! Situated in the heart of Wicklow town, it's as authentic as you're going to find outside Italy. The setting and service are welcoming, friendly, and convivial, while the menu, food and drink are first class. It's clear from the staff and from the plates of food that a tremendous amount of care, attention, and pride goes into preparing and serving the delicious dishes with a no-fuss and friendly attitude. We dined as a group of four on a busy bank holiday Sunday evening. No prior booking so we were told that a table would be available in 45 minutes which gave us time to enjoy a drink at a nearby pub. Starters were fabulous; crostone, fried zucchini flowers in light batter, bruschetta. Mains were equally good; both types of ravioli (the porcini one was especially good), pizza diavola, and the ragu Bolognese were all excellent and the portions were generous. Desserts of tiramisu and affogato were enjoyed with gusto! The breads are particularly impressive. Great selection of Italian wines and beers too, and the staff were happy to discuss these and make recommendations. The pricing is very reasonable, especially given that the dishes are prepared and cooked entirely on site - it's clear that this is a restaurant that takes enormous pride in creating and maintaining the highest standards of food, service, and ambience. It was a memorable meal - wonderful food in a friendly and relaxed corner of Wicklow that felt like being in a hidden gem in Italy. I...
Read moreMe and my wife went here last night and had an amazing time and REAL authentic Italian food. It was like we stepped back to our honeymoon in Italy. We loved the cosiness of the converted house and the atmosphere was great. The food is wow. And I'm a very big eater. I had the calamari for starters and it was cooked to perfection. Many times I have had it in other restaurants and it a either over or under cooked which makes it rubbery. But not here - it was so soft and broke easily in the mouth and the outer coatings of the rings where fluffy with a tiny crunch. Soo sooo nice each mouthful was amazing and best of all it was a good portion. I didn't leave a bit. My wife had the bruschetta with salad and she said it all tasted so light and fresh - also a very generous portion. We both had the special which was tortelli with ham & vegetables in a creamy saffron sauce. It was delicious - full of flavour and substance. I had the tiramisu and my wife had the chocolate cake with liquer (I forget the Italian name) but both of them were amazing in their own ways (we tried each other's desserts). The tirimasu wasn't too strong in flavour so it's ideal for non coffee drinkers and kids too! The cake was rich but not sickly at all. Just right. I'd advise everyone to experience the restaurant at least once in your life - you...
