We ordered two vegetarian breakfasts that come with halloumi on crushed avocado on toast. When we got our breakfasts, there was no halloumi, and we each got a very small amount of avocado (about a quarter of one) on the side next to unbuttered toast. When we asked where the halloumi was, they said they had run out and a member of staff was to have informed us. They did not, which is unfortunate because we would have ordered something else if we had known. The chef told us we would be given a discount on our meals, and we left it and asked for butter at least for the toast. It took two requests for butter and by the time it arrived, the toast had gone cold and we had nearly finished the meals. The food we did eat was fairly good, but not what we ordered as described in the menu.
Frustrated and pretty unsatisfied with our meals, we went to pay, and the staff member gave us no discount. By this point, we were pretty agitated at the clear lack of communication and structure at the business, and we asked for our discount. It resulted in just €8 off €43.
If a customer orders a dish, and the dish will not arrive as described, you have an obligation to communicate that to them as soon as possible so they can adjust their order or confirm that’s ok. A reasonable customer will be fine with that; such is life. If you fail to do that, and you’re going to make it up to them with a discount, you then have a STRONGER obligation to make sure they get that discount at the till. If you fail again at that, you need to have an internal staff discussion about stocking, staff responsibilities, and communication. If you don’t, customers aren’t going to trust your business and...
Read moreReally disappointed with Opera recently for different reasons. First of all the prices are extortionate for one run of the mill ham and cheese simple toastie you are looking at 11 euro alone! Compared to other cafes in the town it’s ridiculous. I got a ham cheese pickle bap, Reuben sandwich, small soup and bread in the Coffee shop for 15 euro! A soup, bread, pastries and coffee in Forehouse for 12 euro. The coffee used to be beautiful in Opera, now it’s just okay and like lava I’ve had blisters on my mouth twice from the coffee! I asked for almond milk once and got coconut instead which I hate and only realised after I’d left! The owner and staff (most of them) are uninterested and aloof. I also came here a while ago at 8:58 two minutes before opening as the door was open and I was told to wait 2 minutes. On another occasion, when they were doing ham and cheese croissants only for breakfast, my mam went to get one which was in the display fridge and they said the time for ham and cheese croissants was over at 11, it was 11:05 and there was literally one left in the display fridge. So they were just going to dump it? What would be the difference if they do toasted sandwiches anyways? Their strict ‘rules’ around time and attitude aren’t in line with good customer service. For a town with a lot of competition around them they are really under performing and over pricing! Don’t see them lasting much longer. Only reason why I have 2 stars is there pastries are nice...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Opera in Wicklow. The server (Marina, who mentioned she was new and that's ok ) but she didn’t know the specials or some of the ingredients in the dishes, and didn’t make any effort to find out. My friend and I both ordered the veggie bun (vegetables, halloumi, egg, and avocado) and I asked for bacon on the side.
The order had to be confirmed multiple times, and when it arrived, only one was correct. Mine came missing both the egg and halloumi. just vegetables, avocado, and bacon. When I asked about this, I was told I had ordered the vegan bun instead, which was not the case. Even after the server admitted she might have input the order incorrectly, there was no real effort to resolve the issue or make me feel comfortable as a customer. They eventually brought me some halloumi, but it felt like I was being an inconvenience rather than the customer.
At the end, I was told I received a discount, but the receipt only showed I wasn’t charged for the extra bacon , hardly a meaningful gesture considering the awkwardness of the whole experience.
Overall, I left feeling unwelcome and disappointed, which is a shame as I was looking forward to...
