Layla's Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in West Cork

The curries are decent and the food is well presented but this place is very overpriced for what it is...

No decent/proper side dishes. All traditional vegi side dishes like Sag Aloo, Aloo Gobi, Dal are instead sold as mains for 14 or 15 euros.... Yet the portions are no bigger than a typical side... Sag aloo was nice but charging €14 for a small bowl of spuds and some frozen spinach is a rip off along with the rest of the menu.

Side dishes on offer.... a wet vegetable curry, onion bhaji, smiley potatoes (seriously!) and aloo tikki which were awful and came mixed in with a portion of frozen chips. Bizarre.

Service was not good.. We waited nearly an hour between starters and mains. The man serving us (who I'm guessing was the owner) was not very welcoming, was borderline grumpy and completely inflexible to any sort of request. It's a real shame as the kitchen staff can clearly cook but he rather lets the place down. Was only him serving front of house most of the night as far as I could tell. Eventually a chef or someone else from the kitchen came out and helped with service and our mains finally arrived. He at least was friendly!

Sadly there are no good Indian Restaurants in Clonakilty. Better to just go to Asian Street Food. Cheap and cheerful, unpretentious and tasty... Not an Indian but their Thai Curry is decent and...

The food was great here and the waitress was super nice, but the owner was extremely disrespectful and made for a frustrating experience.

One person in our party had a dairy allergy, and mistakenly consumed some on the naan. Honest mistake, we ordered it without specifying and asked after if it had any (which it did) and was told it would not.

Once the owner informed us after that this was a mistake, which we said was understandable and an honest mistake- but that was somewhat serious and we'd need to leave immediately to go the pharmacy, he kept implying this was an overreaction. His repeated attempts to shift the blame, and minimize the error (which was an honest mistake) and dictate our reaction was a huge display of disrespect that unfortunately overshadowed the pleasant nature of the waitress and food.

I'm not sure why he needed to repeatedly assert himself but it made us all quite angry and was the worst dining experience we've...

We were a group of 10 who went to this restaurant hoping for a nice evening out, but it turned into an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. We had to wait for two hours, and during that entire time, only the starters were served.

What made things worse was seeing other tables getting served promptly, while we kept waiting with no explanation or updates. When we finally decided to leave due to the long delay, we expected at least a basic apology—but instead, the owner or manager was completely disrespectful. His response? That the kitchen was busy and "you may leave now"—no accountability, no courtesy, no apology.

This is not how guests should be treated. It was an incredibly poor display of customer service, time management, and basic respect. Would absolutely not recommend this...
