L'Experience — Restaurant in Douglas

Experience it was, but not a good one. It's supposed to be a fine dining experience, that it certainly is not. The service is well below par. We arrived 15mins early in order to have a pre- dinner drink and said as much. After a long wait and having to ask twice the drinks order was eventually given. When the menus were handed out we were told of the specials. Seeing as we had booked for a 6.30pm slot we were surprised, when we gave our orders and two were for specials, they were not now available so early on in the evening. We were 'summoned' rather than pleasantly escorted to our table with the waiter standing at the door and pointing across the room to indicate our table.... maybe he's watched too many Fawlty Towers episodes. We asked to order wine. We were served our starters and had to ask again to have wine. We had finished our starters before the wine arrived. One member of the party has an allergy and specified this at the time of ordering, yet was served something containing the allergen and the staff were not interested. One simply shrugged their shoulders and said it was the customer's problem and walked away. Altogether it was a terrible experience, ruined the birthday we were supposed to be celebrating, so an aptly named establishment. I am staying at the hotel and have had two dinners here. The food is very good, but the waitress, or whatever she is, is extremely rude. Tonight I was deep in thought, reading an important email. Without addressing me, she started yelling at me and asked if I was OK. I guess she wanted to take me to a table, but I didn’t know she was talking to me. I have trouble with my hearing and with her French? accent, I was having trouble understanding her. As she recited the specials, I told her I wanted the Wueenies. She kept going and at the end I again said what I wanted. She turned and walked away. After a few minutes, I realized that she hadn’t asked about sides. She said, “Oh, do you wish to order?” Yes, I did. She never came near my table again. I am unable to get anyone’s attention and am still sitting here 20 minutes after the table was cleared. I asked another girl last night if I could get my bill and got a snippy, “I am not your waitress!” I have two more nights here and need to decide if I will eat here, no matter how...

Unfortunately, we didn’t have a great experience. Food was fine but service and professionalism was incredibly poor. The evening began with the barman/manager? shouting f** hell at some guests whilst we were waiting in the bar, my elderly relatives did not appreciate this after thinking they were dining at a formal establishment. It took +2hrs for one course to be served and cleared, we attempted multiple times to grab the staff’s attention but they were too busy setting up breakfast for the next day. When they finally cleared our main course and gave us dessert menus, we waited another 15 minutes before I had to go and find someone to take our order. Barman/manager was sat with said guests so not sure who was in charge. It’s unclear what this restaurant is aiming for, with the high prices you would naturally expect strong service but the whole experience did not warrant the prices charged. Afraid to say we...
