Had Gyro for Dinner from here — Five Stars! Highly recommended. A quintessential Greek street food, the gyro features seasoned meat—traditionally lamb, beef, or chicken—slow-roasted on a vertical rotisserie. As it turns before the heat, the outer layers crisp up while the inside stays juicy, basting in its own drippings. The meat is then thinly sliced and typically wrapped in warm pita bread, accompanied by fresh vegetables and tangy tzatziki sauce. We ordered plain chicken gyros—no sauce, no toppings—and requested the pita in a pizza-style format, which the staff gladly accommodated. The pita was grilled to perfection, lightly salted, and served warm. The chicken, bare and unadorned, was incredibly flavorful—tender, spiced, and juicy. The simplicity of the dish allowed the real chicken flavor to shine. Gyros share roots with Turkish döner kebab, Arab shawarma, and the Canadian donair. The name comes from the Greek gýros (meaning "turn" or "circle"), referencing the rotisserie’s motion. Interestingly, the English word "gyro" is a back-formation from the Greek plural gyros. In Greece, it’s everyday fare—cheap, quick, and ubiquitous. Eating it feels like stepping into history. You can imagine Alexander the Great’s armies roasting meat on swords over open fires. Whether as a quick street bite or a cultural journey, the gyro is a delicious tribute to Mediterranean tradition and ingenuity.

There are alot of kebab shops in douglas but niko's grill is the most special. I have tried all of them and although every one of them is good but niko's grill is somewhat better when it comes to customer experience. The best thing about them is they never shy away on giving you extra if you ask them, Even when you are ready to pay for it they dont worry about it and give you a lot extra without any extra charge. Their pita breads are very soft comapred to any other place and i think they are the only one who serve Falafel.. so all in all if you are craving for some good kebab with great customer experience then this is the place for you.

What can I say. Stayed in Douglas working away for 2 nights and normally eat in the hotel restaurant but decided on a takeaway. I ordered the combo box and my word that it was bursting with flavour, good quality meat and a hefty portion. It was that good I even went back the 2nd night and ordered the same again which I never do. The guys in the shop were friendly and would totally recommend.
