In the past I’ve loved this restaurant so I had high expectations. Last night it was very busy so service and quality I feel suffered a little but I can overlook that. It was very noisy and hard to have a conversation because the tables are close together, something I’d not really noticed before but never been there when it been as busy. All this was not great but understandable. My low rating is for something that I feel is fundamental and really should not be an issue ever. Having ordered from the specials menu we were expecting a nice fresh fish. What we got was a skate wing that smelled strongly of ammonia and was inedible. It was taken away and we re ordered. However I could taste the amonia from the mouthful I had eaten which tainted everything I ate. There was no propped apology and no concession given, I very much doubt I will...

On holiday and walked past and it looked really nice atmosphere so we booked for next evening. Starter was OK. We just ordered a sharing bread board, you can't really go wrong there. Both ordered fish and chips with mushy peas. Really disappointed, there was no flavour or taste to anything, it all tasted the same. The fish also had the skin on under the batter (which we both don't like but my fault I should have asked before ordering). Large glass of wine, (which wasn't large) and a perroni (again small glass). £52.00 later and after being in there for an hour we left, disappointed. Went to another local pub and had a desert and drinks in there. Sorry boatyard nice atmosphere and decorated really nice but our experience was the food/drinks expensive and lacked flavour. Had much nicer meals in other...

Not been here before so it was a delight to find it. We had the Silver Surfers Menu which is really good value for money as the portions are just right and you get 3 courses. The meal showed us very clearly that the chef knew what they were doing as everything was cooked just right. The tables are well spaced which is great if you are disabled or need extra space. The servers couldn't have been nicer. I tend to judge a place by the disabled toilet and this is has one of the best for cleanliness etc, if not the best. We are so impressed that we have booked again and it will be one of our "go to places" . As it can get very busy and not surprised that it does, probably a good idea to telephone to book a table to be sure...

I was really looking forward to the meal at the Boatyard having heard so much about it. Was with 7 others on a Wednesday night and were asked to order in advance which was fine. My starter of smoked salmon was ok bur the main seafood gratin was such a disappointment. Completely dry and with no sauce i managed less than half. No waiters checking up on us during the meal (both salt mills had run out) and no comeback when i pointed out my main was inedible. What a shame. Others did fair better so I'll give 3 starts but i won't be rushing back ##update## thanks for the reply Boathouse, i had not realised the gratins were deducted from the bill thank you

Great ambience and friendly staff. Pickle pot with mussels and scallops was zesty and generous, not something I've tried before but will order it again for sure. Seafood chowder was enjoyable with a nice smoky flavour from the ham. Fish finger bap was fresh and served with lettuce in an excellent bun, probably my only criticism was that it could have used some more tang (which I remedied by asking for a lemon). Bloody Mary was perfect. Overall I will certainly be returning to this excellent restaurant at the next opportunity.

This is an edited review. The restaurant reached out with legal threats, demanding I have GP proof if I am to make any claims of food poisoning. This came with no attempts to check what happened or if I was ok. So I am not claiming I got food poisoning from eating here. I will instead say that having eaten cereal and ice cream as my only other food that day (and having drunk no alcohol) I spent 4 hours vomiting after my meal at this restaurant. Any causation would be mere speculation.
