Oh, prepare yourself for a culinary adventure like no other! Picture this: a charming family arrives in a new city, starving and exhausted, only to stumble upon the illustrious Basti restaurant. Little did they know that their hunger would be met with a feast of disappointment and regret.
As they strolled through the market, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of a closing restaurant. Ah, the serendipity! The restaurant's representative, sensing their desperation, graciously offered to pack five meals for the famished clan. How thoughtful, right? Well, hold onto your seats, because the journey takes a turn for the worse.
Unbeknownst to our unsuspecting family, their meals were prepared with utmost care and precision. Carefully scraped off from the gyro frying pan, the cold leftover meat was presented in all its soggy, lackluster glory. Truly a feast fit for the gods! Or maybe not.
But wait, it gets even better. Instead of the promised five meals, they were blessed with a mere three breads in a small bag. Ah, such generosity! The restaurant's math skills are truly unparalleled. And to think, they had the audacity to charge a hefty sum of 180.00 units of currency for this remarkable culinary experience.
As the family returned to their humble abode, hope turned into heartache as they opened the container of disappointment. The sight before their eyes confirmed their suspicions—they had been taken for a ride. A ride that left them hungry, tired, and questioning the very existence of quality food in this world.
And let's not forget the icing on the cake, or should I say the cold leftover meat on the gyro? The restaurant's representative proudly proclaimed their professionalism, sealing the deal on an experience that would forever be etched in the family's memory.
Oh, the sadness of it all! The ummah's indifference to the plight of a hungry Muslim family from across the world is truly a testament to the hospitality and care they bestow upon their guests. What a glorious welcome!
So, my dear readers, heed this cautionary tale and steer clear of the direction in which Basti restaurant lies. Feast your eyes upon the attached pictures and judge for yourselves the wonders that await. As for our unlucky family, they remain hungry, unhappy, and determined never to venture near this culinary calamity again. Insha'Allah, their future travels will be filled with better meals and...
Read moreNo matter how adequate the food was…there is no way to give this restaurant more than one star. We were handed menus and we asked for three meals that were 45 NS each. We also ordered three fruit drinks. The owner talked us into adding 3 small steaks. Then he said he would make it “good” for us and not to worry. When the food came out there were a table full of little dishes with the usual vegetables. It was very pretty and the food was good. Then three small steaks and the original kebabs had we ordered. No bread. But that is an aside. We asked for the bill and two coffees. The bill came to $150 USD or 525 NS!!!!. Not the price we had originally discussed on the menu. When we asked to speak to the owner he was “not available”. We had no choice but to pay. The moral of the story is: if you eat there, ask what the price will be for EACH item they try to sell you in addition to the menu price first discussed. BUYER...
Read moreThese guys are scam artists. Food is overpriced to begin with due to proximity to some of the major tourist sites. We ordered without looking at the menu and was surprised when he tried to charge us 115 Shekels. When I mentioned to him how high of a price that was. He got very close to my face and told me to get out of the restaurant. He then showed me the menu to justify the price but even when you added everything up it only came to 90 shekel. He just didn't want me to make a scene as to not risk the large party of German tourists becoming aware of the scam. Avoid at all costs. There are so many places to eat in Old Jerusalem and many are owned by fair, hard working...
