Total chaos, totally worth it. This was my first time to what has been described to me as a real hummus place - they make hummus in the morning and when it runs out they close, so you better get there before mid afternoon. When we arrived around noon, there wasn't an empty table in the whole place, which only has about 6-8 tables inside and a few two-tops outside. We were directed to a table with enough open chairs to fit our group of 3 and sat down with a local who said he's been coming to this place every Friday (market day) for years and loves it. He recommended the hummus he was having (no idea what it was called, but in hindsight it didn't matter as it was all delicious), so we got it and one other recommended by the guy taking our order. We were instructed to take note by the local that the bowls we got were fully round; that is, we weren't digging around in a little pit at the bottom of the bowl which apparently means you don't get as much...Well, 2 bowls and a dozen pitas were plenty for us! For roughly 20 minutes we sat scarfing down hummus, inspired by the rapid pace of the staff moving about the room and the moderate roar of the crowd of patrons. It was a great experience! The hummus was tasty and the price was pretty cheap - we paid 52 NIS for two bowls of hummus and two drinks. If you're in Tel Aviv and certainly if you go down to Jaffa, I highly recommend you stop by Abu Hassan, and be...
Read moreThis was my favorite food experience in Tel Aviv. Hands down the best hummus in this city. A way to tell if a spot is good is if there’s a queue. Since I’m a solo diner I went in and got seated very fast but with 3 other random gentlemen and it was quite fun because they didn’t speak English so I just got to observe them. How I wish I could understand their conversation.
The owners are running around and you can see the hustle and bustle. One can tell this is a family run business. They take your order really fast you have the option of non spicy, spicy, or mixed hummus. I picked the mix with egg topping as it’s the most popular. It’s paired with bread and some sour pickle dressing and raw Onions. It’s clearly the Old school way of eating it by cleansing your palate with raw onions. The 3 men at my table were eating it raw and I was just thinking to myself maybe there’s mint offered afterwards? Nonetheless, the mixed hummus plate was Exceptional paired with my bread. Such humble and simple recipe yet so filling and delicious.
The owners allowed me to even go in the back and video the process. I couldn’t have been more grateful to the food and the experience.
This is an absolute must...

Rating: ★★★★★
My wife and I decided to revisit Abu Hassan Hummus on Dolphin Street after years of frequenting their branches on Shivtey Israel street. It turned out to be an absolute delight.
This cozy place often requires sharing a table with others, which we don't mind at all. During our visit, a friendly lady joined our table, and it was pretty clear she was a tourist. We struck up a conversation and learned that her friends had recommended this place to her.
Just like us, she ordered the mouthwatering Masabecha, and her face lit up with joy after the first bite. She couldn't stop smiling and expressed how thrilled she was with her friends' recommendation.
Abu Hassan Hummus on Dolphin Street has a unique charm, from its warm atmosphere to the scrumptious food. The chance encounters with fellow diners only add to the experience. Whether you're a local or a traveler, make sure to check out this culinary gem. It's sure to leave you with a big smile, just like my wife and...
