In past years we enjoyed Pastel often. This evening was among the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had in Tel Aviv and all over the world. The fish dishes we ordered -- which used to be fabulous -- were mediocre; but a tuna starter dish, included a few unbearably spicy bites -- as though the chef failed to distribute the pepper evenly. When we mentioned this to the waitress she just nodded. No apology; no response. We ordered the hamburger for the kids, and asked that it be cut into two pieces. The waitress said she'll ask the kitchen, and returned with a negative answer - no, they cannot cut the burger. We were warned in advance that the burger arrives with only a bottom bun, and that they will not under any circumstances provide a top bun. When it arrived, however, it came without any bun. We had to insist even on that... Again -- no apologies, no acknowledgement. And -- the grand finale -- at the end of the evening my 10 years old daughter found herself locked in the bathroom stall. As the manager tried to unscrew the lock, he explained that this lock has been problematic. Really??? you waited for someone to get stuck in it before changing it??? He also added tasteless jokes -- advising my daughter to drink some water as she waited to be released from the locked bathroom stall. For the record -- this 10 years old remained remarkably calm throughout the ordeal. It took 3 restaurant workers and 30 minutes to break the problematic lock and release my daughter. Again --no apologies, no acknowledgements. The manager didn't even offer my daughter a glass of water when she was finally set free... An upscale restaurant gone...
Read morePastel, situated adjacent to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, presents itself as a refined dining experience, but behind the sleek design and art-world adjacency lies a restaurant suffering from a crisis of decency. From the moment I stepped inside, Pastel offered the illusion of sophistication. Unfortunately, this promise unraveled dish by dish, interaction by interaction, revealing a stunning disconnect between price and quality. Let’s begin with the food. At these prices—comparable to some of the top-tier establishments in Europe—one expects precision, creativity, and above all, flavor. What I received was a series of overwrought dishes. Then came the service. Unpleasant, unauthentic and unprofessional. When you’re charging these prices, service should elevate the experience—not degrade it. But most unsettling of all was what I witnessed between the staff. Throughout the evening, the shift manager—whose presence was anything but discreet—conducted himself like a tyrant overseeing a battlefield rather than a dining room. Sharp commands and even visible intimidation directed at the kitchen staff created a tense, almost hostile atmosphere. It’s rare that the behind-the-scenes chaos spills so brazenly into the guest experience, but at Pastel, it was impossible to ignore. The restaurant’s attempt at high-end elegance was completely undermined by the brutal, and frankly inappropriate, treatment of its own team. Pastel might look the part, but beneath the surface, it’s a disappointing and deeply unsettling experience. One I won’t be repeating—and wouldn’t recommend to anyone who values good food, kind service, or basic...
Read moreExcellent chef restaurant led by Gal Ben Moshe which is the owner of the PRISM restaurant that got a Michelin Star in Berlin! We came to a friday dinner . We recieved the square table in the middle of the restaurant. The food was delicious,we had some gluten free and Vegan options (not to many, the dishes just excluded te gluten where is possible). The restaurant located in the middle of Tel Aviv connected to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. There is a big parking under the restaurant so it was very easy to find a parking. The dishes were very tasty, contemporary menu, fresh fish from the local fishermen. The price was a bit expensive, paid around 2200 ils for 6 people. The clientele were families, couples, business partners (I suppose...) as the restaurant is prestige and well designed and even won in 2014 the first place at the Space Design Award Idea-Top . The atmosphere was nice ,not to noisy ,the music was nice . The service was excellent, the waiter took an order from each one of us and took notes about the allergies of the members to try to change the dishes if possible. I think the only thing that annoyed me a bit is that the plates were a bit sticky when I touched some of them (sticky like... not so clean). In overall the restaurant is excellent and I will probably come back for another dinner. Very...
