This is why Bob and I love small town Italy: We drove around a small hilltop town looking for a place to have lunch. We spotted a restaurant called Crazy Burger, a very strange name for a restaurant in Italy. A quick google search produced a good rating so hey, let's do it. As we walked up to this place, anticipating how crazy our burger might be, the man sweeping the patio extended his hand, introduced himself and asked where we were from. Antonio was quick to note we were foreigners and gave us the warmest welcome. His english was amazing, which is rare in small towns outside the tourist areas. After he and his big personality invited us in, we asked for beer. Ignoring our request, he asked if we would like to try his homemade wine. He had us at homemade. We knew then, we were in for a ride. He then asked us if we would allow him to make us pasta using ingredients fresh from his garden. With our mouths gaped open, we nodded in unison as we are not stupid people. Out came the wine, the entire bottle, uh oh. He then brought over slices of homemade pizza to tie us over (enough for a meal). As we ate our "appie", we could hear Antonio clanging the pots as the garlic smell wafted over to us. As you can see by the pics, the pasta was fresh and beautiful and tasted heavenly. But WAIT, as we stuffed ourselves with the heavenly pasta, out came the salad, again, fresh from his garden. Amazing. THEN, came the homemade liqueur made from the carob plant. Moonshine basically. As we get fuller and happier by the minute, Antonio sits down, produces apples from his tree out back, peels them and feeds the slices to us - because of course we needed more food. He then pulls out walnuts. We are now convinced he has a garden in his pocket. Ok, maybe the moonshine convinced us. As he continued to feed us, he told us stories upon stories, all so fascinating. After 3 hours, we left with a belly full of goodness, a mind full of great tales and our hearts forever tied to him. #grateful...
Read moreThis place was amazing!!!! We went to Italy for our honeymoon and ended up in Amalfi. After a long hot day of hiking path of the gods we stumbled upon this place waiting for a bus ride back. We decided to eat here since we were starving. We bought all the snickers they had lol. The owner came over when we walked in and asked us what we would like. We asked for a menu but he didn't have any but said he would make us whatever we wanted. We asked for burgers if that was possible he said no problem we sat outside and waited. He brought out our custom made burgers and they were delicious and amazing, they were not typical American burgers. He had everything separated with fresh beef, goat cheese, and vegies. The food was so amazing I asked him how we did it and he walked us out back and showed us his little farm and tried to explain best he could that everything he used was fresh farm to table. It was one of the best meals I had. It wasn't till after we realized we missed our bus and also that it was Palm Sunday!!! There were no other buses running or cabs and at this point it was 7pm. We asked him if he knew of any transportation. The owner was nice enough to search the internet but found nothing. He then amazingly told us not to worry he walked us down the street to the local palm Sunday festival and explained to us that his neighbor was a cab driver and would ask him if he would be willing to drive us and if not that he would find us some where to stay. I was blown away!!!!! It seemed like some story out of movie how it all turned out. But his neighbor did end up driving us which I was super grateful for. I will never forget this experience, this was back in 2017 with my then pregnant wife, but I would just like to say thank you again on here for all you did and your...
Read moreThis place made my trip to Italy. I tried way fancier restaurants, which ranged from good to excellent before but this one's stands out by far for its authenticity.
It's very inexpensive. They grow their own vegetables and make their own wines (the white one is fine). They buy the fish at the shop literally next door. If you come on the right season, you will get some grapes from the vine used as the terrace's roof.
They make a few antipasti, a few primi and secondi piatti, pizzas. They also have burgers and paninis (hence the place's name). I had sea beam and pasta all'amatriciana. The sea beam was excellent and the pasta sauce was outstanding. The best I've had during my 5-6 days in Italy (arguably a very personal opinion).
Last but definitely not least, the owners. It's a family run business, started by Antonio 40 years ago. His daughter is helping for service and his son is cooking. The grandson is also helping for service. They're all very friendly. The daughter engaged the conversation with us spontaneously and this lasted 5 minutes. The Antonio came over from another table and ended up sitting with us. They made us decide between limoncello and caruba liqueur. I had never tried the latter so I went for it. Deliciously spicy. I ended up ordering and being offered a few more.
Dinner started at 9pm and we should have been back at 11pm in hour hotel. We stayed until 1am chatting with Antonio and another couple who merged...
