What a terrible experience we had. The owners are very unkind. From the moment we have entered the place and asked to have a look at the menu, the owners said we can read outside… So, it was cold and we did not want to stand outside and read… This gave me a red light for their behaviour. But finally we ordered some antipasti, first course and wine. So, when we got bread on the table we asked the waitress for olive oil. She was not bringing and we thought she has forgotten. Then we saw the owner and we asked her again, she said „later with the second course”. Then I went third time and asked again and poor waitress said she can not bring now as these are the rules for the restaurant…. So, can you imagine ? They refused to brung olive oil for the meal when you ask. Olive oil only with second course. I do not mind paying extra for olive oil, but give me this choice, do not treat me as a fool. We do not recommend this place, also the soup was without taste . The owners do not know how to be hospitable running hospitality business. Maybe only for tourists they behave this rude way,...

We went as a group of 5 and were the first people there it only being 7pm so we got the choice of the tables. There is quite an extensive menu and one of the waitresses spoke some English so helped where we were unsure of what things were.
I had a mixed starter which was delicious - especially the stuffed zuccini flowers - and it was a good selection that wasnt too heavy.
I had the wild boar with polenta for a main course and although it was meant to have some chocolate in the sauce I couldnt taste any and the meat although tasty was rather dry and the sauce needed to have more depth and more of it.
The bread was very good and the house wine was rather cold - almost chilled.
An enjoyable meal and I'd recommend that you try it if in that part of Altopaschio. The meal for 5 with starters/mains and 1.5l of house wine was just...
Read moreThis is a wonderful osteria in the village of Altopascio, on the Via Francigena. Between us, we have eaten lunch here twice. The tasty vegetable soups were chocked full of good things such as borlotti beans, cavolo nero, carrots, celery, onions and potato. The pastas were also tasty. We tried two different pastas, one alla carbonara and the other al funghi. One of us completed lunch with a lovely, light tiramisu. Overall, for me, this was the best lunch so far in Italy. Warm and efficient service too Also, the owners have a cute little sausage dog who wanders around the restaurant nonchalantly, while keeping a careful...
