disappointing for what is supposed to be one of the top restaurants in town, reserved in advance for us by a local friend.
if you are a tourist, there are probably better places for a special meal.
no welcome or maitre'd, but a server eventually took us to our table.
our table for two was tiny and jammed in the middle of a dining room of much bigger tables. not a nice place to sit at all
no english menu so we used google lens to translate. menu on website is not the same as actual menu but similar so we pretty much knew what we wanted. if you don't speak italian just use google translate to avoid confusion when communicating with servers
we ordered from the first waiter, then nothing happened for 20 minutes until a second waitress appeared to say they did not have our starter so could we order something else.
after another 10 mimutes we still had no water or wine so asked, at which point a third waitress (a very helpful lady) checked and said they did not have the wine we ordered, so we ordered a different bottle (which was nice)
now 45 mins after arriving we finally had water, wine and bread (nice)
after another 15 mins, our starter arrived which was tartare of red prawns with burrata and pistachio. a good serving of prawns, tasty but a tiny tiny piece of burrata and not much pistachio. some prawn shell in the tartare. still a nice dish which could be 10/10 with improvement
then the linguine with lobster arrived this was just not good enough for the most expensive dish on the menu (€50 to share for 2 people) the lobster was a good size (probably 600g) and halved nicely but undercooked!!! hard to get the meat out and no lobster picks provided, just shears.8 they should have grilled it briefly after steaming to get extra flavour and fully cook it, particularly if it was frozen (which is fine for the price) The linguine in sweet tomato sauce was nice but a bit watery and would have been better with some garlic and maybe even chili.
we did not risk getting dessert and just got an ice cream elsewhere
bill was reasonable at around €95 but I am sure we could have spent 2 hours somewhere nicer and...
It is an absolutely brilliant restaurant when it comes to setting, food (in particular seafood), wine and prices (excellent value for money, at least when you visit from the UK). The problem is the very slow service; in some cases, i.e., our case, this can be life threatening even (not only inconvenient). Granted, we visited on Easter Monday, and the place was packed. They found a lovely table for us, we ordered straight away and they brought us bread and water after that. Seeing this, we injected insulin to our daughter, who lives with T1 diabetes, and had a 40-minute safety window for the food to arrive. It did not. 45 minutes later, she had to use her hypo treatment, and I rushed to ask them to, at least, bring the French fries for her to have some carbs. They did this very fast. 1 hour and 10 minutes after we ordered, they brought us the food, and we had to ask for the wine, which only arrived after that. Probably on a different day, this place would have been a 5-star one, but on the day a 3 is...
