Asian restaurant TON LU REN — Restaurant in Arona

Some friends had told me this place was great. I was brought here by very kind friends but on that day, food was below average for us. The serving staff did try being positive with us. We ordered vegetarian choices. To me, only the garlicky black fungus starter was good. The authentic feel part was not there. Even the plastic bottle they served a pesto style hot (not hot chilli) sauce was distracting. We ordered green tea but was not that fresh and they did not refill our pot with hot water. Perhaps the chef had a bad day or the management may have made changes! Looking forward to editing this comment after another visit, if cooking/menu was only so that day. Avendo vissuto in Cina, ho sempre avuto un debole per la cucina del Sichuan: sapori decisi, piccanti e intensi che mi hanno conquistato. Tornato in Italia, però, ho fatto fatica a ritrovare quelle sensazioni autentiche: molti ristoranti cinesi si fermavano a versioni più “addolcite” per il palato locale. Ton Lu Ren, invece, è stato il locale che più si è avvicinato a quell’esperienza: pur con il minimo adattamento inevitabile alla tradizione italiana, i piatti hanno davvero il carattere e la forza del Sichuan.

Il ristorante propone sia menù alla carta che due menù fissi: il primo (antipasto, primo e secondo a scelta) a 20 euro, e quello più completo con contorno e sorbetto a 24 euro. Noi abbiamo scelto il primo menù, aggiungendo dei ravioli alla piastra: croccanti, deliziosi, tra i migliori mai provati.

Tra gli antipasti, l’anatra arrosto speziata e il manzo in olio piccante sono stati i piatti più sorprendenti: morbidi, succosi e con un’intensità di sapore perfetta per chi ama il piccante. Gli spaghetti di riso con frutti di mare, pur buoni, erano più simili a quelli di altri ristoranti cinesi. I secondi, invece, sono stati eccezionali: la padella di manzo fritto saltato con verdure è stata il piatto della serata, con il pepe del Sichuan ben presente, carne morbidissima e verdure croccanti e saporite. Ottimo anche il vitello saltato servito nella botte.

Il servizio merita un plauso: personale gentile, sorridente e sempre disponibile a spiegare con cura ogni piatto. Porzioni abbondanti, come si vede anche dalle foto, e prezzi onestissimi: con il bere, abbiamo speso 28 euro a testa.

In conclusione, un’esperienza che consiglio vivamente a chiunque voglia avvicinarsi ai veri sapori del Sichuan...
