Taverna a Mare — Restaurant in Carovigno

Coming to Costa Merlata out of season makes it slightly tricky to find somewhere that's open!

We stumbled upon Taverna a Mare totally by chance, as our original choice for a pizza lunch was nowhere to be seen.

Lunch: Arriving 20 minutes earlier than the restaurant open time, we were invited in for an aperitif while the kitchen got ready. We were given the English menu and seated at a nice table out of the sun, with a view to their fruity/herby garden with banana trees, bay, lavender and sage. Perfectly chilled prosecco was accompanied by complimentary olives, warm crusty bread and olive oil.

The menu is a double-sided page with pizza options on reverse BUT pizza is only served in the evening. Our disappointment that pizza wasn't part of the lunch menu didn't last long.

My steak - medium done - was melt in the mouth, and the side of French fries... perfect. Properly crisp on the outside with a fluffy centre.

To close, a complimentary lemon sorbet drink to refresh the palette.

Came here for what was supposed to be a lovely birthday lunch, but it was completely ruined by the rude waiter. We ordered drinks and wanted to order pizza, which was clearly on the English menu the waiter himself told us to scan. Only after we tried to order were we told that pizza isn’t available during lunch. Fair enough—but when we said we’d just finish our bottle of spumante and leave since we were really in the mood for pizza, he kicked us out of the restaurant and moved us to the bar area. Keep in mind: the place was nearly empty, with only two tables occupied.

Completely uncalled for, especially considering how many warm and welcoming restaurants there are in Italy. This place feels stuck-up, and the service was unnecessarily rude. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere with actual...

Se anche il locale all'aspetto sembra prospettare una buona esperienza ecco che invece ,per quanto mi riguarda, è stato uno dei peggiori pranzi della mia vita. eccessivamente caro, hanno anche addebitato portate che non sono state consumate. abbiamo ordinato un antipasto misto della casa che, a detta del cameriere, dovrebbe bastare per due e consisteva in meno di 9 portate misere di frittata fredda, purea di fave e un ciuffetto di calamaro al sugo, 5 micro polpette, una fetta di capocollo, un'insalata di mare (di quelle preconfezionate) e qualche altra miseria quasi tutto servito su un "letto" di rucola avvizzita. il vino rosso della casa era letteralmente bollente e imbevibile. come primo abbiamo ordinato paccheri con cernia che si è rivelato essere un piatto di appena 8 pezzi di pasta e un pezzo microscopico di cernia (grande quanto una moneta di due euro, non esagero)con un mare di sugo al costo di 16euro ,ci hanno addebitato doppia porzione di frittura mista, pur essendo stati chiari nello specificare di volerne solo una, visto che la descrivono sufficiente per due persone. una delle esperienze che mi sento di sconsigliare vivamente. ero gia stata due volte in questo ristorante e ,pur non essendo cambiata la gestione, che resta a conduzione della stessa famiglia, è di sicuro cambiato il modo di trattare i clienti e la qualità delle pietanze. consiglio spassionato: controllate bene lo scontrino prima di allontanarvi. io per fiducia nella persona titolare della taverna ho controllato solo una volta rientrata a casa pur avendo da subito avuto il dubbio sull'esattezza della cifra. prestate molta attenzione e siate chiari con il cameriere che si perde in inutili chiacchiere e non prende bene nota delle...
