The first waitress I dealt with was extremely well mannered & was completely charming. However for a part of the service, including to take the order, for some reason it was changed to send a man with curly hair to me. For some reason his self-presentation was not good, he looked a bit of a mess if I am honest, as he had just awoken on a side street a few hours earlier & gone to work without a wash, with a hangover. Who knows? But this was not an issue & to be honest I would not of noticed if it was not for his projections upon me, a woman that he does not know at all.
I ate alone & dressed smartly, with fine Italian hand crafted earrings & make-up done smartly. I am fat. Its just a fact of life. I feel the fact that I am fat, although I looked decent & nice enough, this combined with the fact that I am 'straniera' a foreigner, even though I spoke to him in fluent Italian appeared to be an issue for this man waiter. First he walked over to me as if he was walking to his funeral, then he proceeded to take my order of a Chinotto (Italian fizzy sweet &bitter non-alcoholic drink), Negroni classic cocktail & an Aversa premium pizza. He looked at me as if he was about to spit on me: no joke.
Later during halfway through my pizza he walked over to me, in a similar manner, presumably to ask me if the food is good, however I immediately stated in Italian to him 'May I ask you something? Before you came to me walking to me as if you were going to your own funeral, perhaps as well it would seem that you do not like foreigners'. He pretended he did not understand (brutto figura lui ha fatto) his response was effectively that it was not like that & that this must of been my impression. To this I continued to cut up my pizza, shook my head in the Sicilian manner, pulled the correct Sicilian face, did not look at him & said in Italian m 'Ah must of been impression mine, ah' with a face of stone that would kill baby ducklings at first sight. He walked off in shame, knowing full well that I was no fool & he had just embarrassed himself further also due to the group of five men in their 50's & 60's age a couple of metres away from me.
The pizza was superb & for once you get whats on the photos in the menu! The girl was lovely, charming & cordial. I feel sorry for the young man whom is clearly so unhappy with himself, with his life to the extent that he projects his own short-comings, unhappiness & hatred upon others. Shame on him, he should get himself a life, save, travel, open up his mind & not make assumptions about people, especially ones that have learnt Italian & have lived with a Sicilian for over 7 years.
My enemies (not the man waiter! Others) have blocked me from uploading photos on Google maps, which I cannot do until I gave completed the injunction at High Court this month. But anyway the pizza looked as good as it tasted & the Negroni was exceptional, it simply lacked presentation no...
Read moreWe ran into this restaurant by chance because it was super close to our AirBnb. The view is spectacular for sunset and in the night it is even more romantic, but that is not the only great thing about this restaurant. Their potato and sausage appetizer is delicious and their Canale Vecchio pizza was the best pizza we had in ALL of Sicily! We ate twice during our stay, and even when we would walk by the restaurant on other nights the staff was very sweet and always greeted us. @thepasseggiata LOVES Canale Vecchio! Everyone should stop by and...
