Casty is a stylish restaurant in Castiglione della Pescaia on the main street by the harbor, offering exceptional pizzas, seafood and an extensive wine and gin selection in a lively beachfront setting. There’s a lot to love about Casty, and it had the potential to be a 5+ star experience, but was marred by poor service.

First, the good: The food quality was very high. Dishes were fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. Pizzas were amazing. Prices were fair for the quality and beachfront location. The restaurant itself is stylish and well-located on the main walkway of this charming coastal town. Making an online reservation was simple, the menu was available in English and listed allergens in each dish (nice!), and the wine and gin selections were impressive.

Unfortunately, the service fell far short of expectations. After being seated, we were apparently ignored for nearly 10 minutes. One person in our group was chastised for ordering a pizza incorrectly.

The staff (many of whom were quite pleasant) seemed disorganized and indifferent, and it was never clear who our waiter was — or if we had one. There was no continuity of service, and nearly every visit to our table was by a different person. A bottle of wine we ordered was not delivered until requested a second time, with no acknowledgement (although the person opening and pouring the wine was clearly experienced and did so expertly). Servers placed food in front of the wrong people. We would have ordered more, but no one checked in during the meal. The checkout process at the bar was similarly chaotic, when I gave honest feedback about the service, I was told they would “tell on” our server—rather than asking what had happened or how it could be improved.

Overall, we felt like second-class citizens—uncertain whether we were not welcome as tourists, caught in some breakdown of communication among the staff, or whether this level of service is par for the course. Whatever the reason, the service made us feel unwelcome and overlooked.

Casty has all the ingredients of a top-tier restaurant: Great food, atmosphere, and location. However, for a visitor seeking a warm and professional dining experience, the inconsistent and impersonal service was deeply...

If you’re looking for genuine Italian cuisine in a stylish atmosphere with good service and an exquisite wine selection avoid this place at all costs. The place is a noisy and cheaply furnished tourist trap. The service is attentive until you placed your order or to talk you into buying another overpriced bottle of tap water. The pizza is alright if you compare it to the fast food joint across the street. The fish ordered was tasteless and overcooked served with the worst burnt vegetables I ever had. When you’re on holiday in Tuscany you are supposed to try the famous local wines but all that was on offer by glass was cheap and awful tasting Chardonnay, so that maybe they could force you into ordering a bottle. Equally bad as the fish was the bone dry tagliata. To make matters worse there is only one restroom for the stuffed and overcrowded place. Choose any other restaurant in this city and you’ll...

In den restlichen Bewertungen wird das Personal als freundlich bewertet. Es war etwas spät und vielleicht war Müdigkeit oder ein stressiger Abend ein Faktor. Da wir nicht dort essen oder trinken konnten, kann ich den Rest nicht bewerten. Deshalb soll es eher eine Erinnerung als eine Reklamation sein..

Nach einer Woche Ferien in Italien hat man ein paar Begegnungen mit unfreundlichem oder herablassendem Personal gesammelt. Dieser Ruf ist bald auch so berühmt, wie die gute Küche. Irgendwann kommt einfach das starke Bedürfnis Kommentare zu hinterlassen, um klar zu machen, dass man weder blind noch dumm ist.

Wir wollten 23:00 nach einem Tisch fragen, um noch ein kleines Bier zu trinken. Wir wurden von der Kellnerin auf eine äusserst arrogante und herablassende Art abgewiesen. Mit der Begründung dass dies "ein Restaurant, keine Bar" ist. Wobei ich an diesem Punkt erst nach einem Tisch fragen wollte.. Es war mir irgendwie unklar, was man uns damit sagen wollte. Ich nehme an sie wollten bald schliessen. Dies ginge aber auch auf informative, respektvolle Art, ein Lächeln oder besondere Freundlichkeit wird nicht erwartet.

Zu "Restaurant, keine Bar" muss ich sagen, dass dies für Aussenstehende überhaupt nicht erkennbar ist. Der Designer scheint sich jedenfalls nicht daran orientiert zu haben. Da steht eine riesige Theke mit Flaschen und es hat Lounge-Bereiche, die moderne visuelle Sprache... Ihr Restaurant wirkt wie eine Bar mit Essen! Ihr habt diese Erscheinung gewählt... Wundert euch nicht wenn es zu Unklarheiten kommt?

Der Gemeinde Pescaia geht es offensichtlich gut, besser als ähnlichen Dörfern im Hinterland. Diese Strasse ist ein attraktiver Standort für ein neues Restaurant. Es sind die Touristen - Auch von nördlich der Alpen! - welche diesen Platz für ihr neues Restaurant attraktiv machen. Manche dieser Touristen haben italienische Abstammung und können ganz passabel Italienisch, auch wenn nicht sofort fliessend oder schlagfertig. Auch Blicke werden...
