This restaurant has a "pane e coperto," or bread and tableware, service charge of 1.50 euro per person. This practice is very common in many Italian restaurants, and since many tourists are not aware of the practice, they can be blindsided by the surcharge. However, many tourists also do not know that this fee is outlawed in the region of Lazio, which encompasses the city of Rome and its surrounding area. My contention is not the fee itself, since it is fairly small, nor the necessity of having the fee, but rather the unscrupulousness of the restaurant in taking advantage of unaware tourists.
Otherwise, this restaurant is situated within a few minutes walking distance of the Hotel Ciampino, at which many people spend the night before their flight at the Ciampino airport the next day, which makes it very conveniently located. I had a pizza, whose name escapes me, with ingredients that tasted very fresh and good individually. However, when they came together in the form of the pizza, they created a soggy mess. Perhaps the chef was rushing the pizza or the tomatoes were not sufficiently drained, but the pizza was absolutely dripping. Some people may be a fan of soggy pizza, but I, for one, enjoy the crispness of the crust and the bread. Perhaps the pizza was meant to be served soggily, perhaps it is a custom of which I am not aware. Regardless, I did not enjoy having a half-liquefied pizza and instead opted to pick off the good toppings.
All in all, the pizza was not terrible, and I give them the benefit of the doubt in that a soggy pizza is not the norm. However, for the dishonesty of the whole establishment and the unrepentant insistence of the waiter that the charge was normal and lawful, I wanted to let others be...
Read moreThis has become a favorite place in Ciampino, closely located by the airport. Family run business with know how in the art of food. You can hear the Chef singing and whistling in the kitchen while cooking the beautiful executed dishes. When he is not making magic, he walks around to the tables making sure everything is to your liking. Have been here a few times now and everything I have tried has been fantastic. There is dining indoors and outside on the patio. They have a great selection of wine and some good key beers on tap. They are a very pleasant bunch, the atmosphere is great, the facilities are clean, and the food...
