Not the greatest, and definitely overpriced I don't know why this restaurant is as popular in Civitavecchia as it is, but to each his own, I suppose. I've eaten here twice. An acquaintance of mine raved about it and said that we should go there for lunch one day. I had the pasta al'ragu and was left unimpressed. It was neither bad nor good, just simply average. What did stand out to me was that they had a terrible smell in the restaurant, due to some sort of cleaning product they'd used either in the bathroom or on the floors. It was awful and made the meal less enjoyable.
The bill for three plates of pasta, one dessert, a coffee and two bottles of water was well over 50 Euro - which is so-so for here. Given that we had no wine, and only one person in the group had a dessert, I found it to be a bit pricey.
The second time I went, it was simply because nothing else was open and we were hungry. My date and I found ourselves at a nice table in the corner, which would have been nicer if we could have actually seen the water, but because the view is obstructed by a wall outside, there was no way to see the sea. Pity.
The food was average to below average once again, and this time I opted for steak and potatoes. The meat was chewy and not very well prepared. The ambiance is not that great either, and while the wait staff isn't rude or unfriendly, I just find the whole experience at that restaurant less than deseriable.
With all the other places in Civitavecchia, I would not recommend this restaurant- though there are worse places. See my reviews to find out...
Read moreI have to say we chose this place because of the reviews, the views and the proximity to the cruise port and so glad we did. The food and service were excellent. Our server Danisa was so very pleasant and patient …she took the time to answer all of our questions. We had the seafood appetizer for 2 and it was excellent. It even had fried zucchini flowers which I haven’t had in decades and when my Nona would make them. If you have never tried them they are delicious! My husband had the spaghetti bolognese and said it was the best he’s had since we’ve been in Europe for the last 12 days. I had the gnocchi sorrentinq (homemade gnocchi…and they were light not too heavy) with a light tomato basil sauce with fresh mozzarella…VERY good but it was impossible for me to eat it all after the seafood appetizer. The 1/2 carafe of house red wine was very good and the whole check was about 60 euro. Excellent value for the food quality, service and location. We ate outside on the patio and it was absolutely charming. Pastel yellow and white table clothes and light blue chairs…lovely ambiance. I must reiterate how wonderful the service was. They were very welcoming and did not rush you. We highly recommend this when in...
Read moreWe had a lovely experience at Sora Maria. Just a heads-up: although it says they close at 4 PM, the kitchen actually shuts down around 3 PM, and they’re usually closed in the evenings during the winter months.
We visited in October and were lucky to sit outside in the sun — it was beautiful and very relaxing.
For starters, we had fresh oysters — very good quality — and a green salad, which was also fresh and well-balanced.
As mains, we tried the spaghetti alle vongole, which was excellent, and the tonnarelli with seafood, which was a bit on the oily side but still tasty and satisfying.
We ended the meal with a classic Italian tiramisu and an espresso, both of which reminded us why we love Italian cuisine so much.
Most importantly, our server Miguel was outstanding — friendly, professional, and...
