Located within the elegant old-world charm of the Gran Hotel Liberty, 1910 Lounge and Bistro is tucked about 50 metres past reception. We were seated outside on the terrace under cover, as heavy rain poured down – a charming setting despite the weather.
Ambience and Service: The terrace is cozy and well-sheltered, offering a pleasant view even in poor weather. Service was generally fine, though there was a notable delay in the arrival of our primi – we ordered around 8.05PM and didn’t receive them until 8:30 PM.
Coperto: The meal began with a generous bread selection, including a variety of breads and breadsticks served with a very good quality olive oil. A nice start.
Wine: We had a bottle of Marchesi di Barolo, which was very good value and paired well with the meal.
Primi • Fresh Bigoli Pasta – Served with lake sardines, leek, fennel, and toasted breadcrumbs. A well-balanced and inventive dish; the combination worked beautifully. • Paccheri Pasta – Accompanied by a courgette medley, its flower, sheep’s ricotta, and almond crunch. Another standout – the finely diced courgette with courgette pesto was particularly memorable, and the sheep’s ricotta was subtle and well-integrated.
Secondi • Cuberoll of Scottona Beef – Served close to rare as requested, it arrived nicely pink. The fat was melt-in-the-mouth, and the accompanying vegetable salsa complemented it well. A strong dish. • Pork Loin with Crispy Rind – This dish was less successful. Three small, fatty pieces of pork (with the fat largely inedible), four potatoes, and a rind that, sadly, wasn’t crispy. While the cherry and blueberry sauce and the polenta crackers were enjoyable, the portion size and texture issues made this a disappointment.
Dessert • Tiramisu – Beautifully presented and tasted excellent, though a touch more coffee would have brought better balance.
Overall: A mostly enjoyable meal in a charming setting, with some standout dishes – especially the pasta and beef. A few missteps (notably the pork dish and slow service) held it back slightly, but the quality of ingredients and creativity in the kitchen are clear. Worth a visit, especially for the primi...
Read moreFawlty Towers. One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Our mains arrived before our second course. My medium rare steak arrived cold. Sent it back. Got a well done steak. I returned it. The head waiter didn’t apologise and looked disgusted. Absolutely shocking service. The food was good but the attitude of the staff was very poor. The tall waiter with glasses was an absolute gent though. The other purpose of our visit was to check out the hotel for next year. Will not be staying here. Look I understand mistakes are made but there was no effort to...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem inside a hotel with exceptional service, nice vibe and high quality of food and wines. A great choice to have dinner in summer. The only problem was we had more bread than usual thanks to the flavourful olive oil (probably the best olive oil we’ve ever had) and had to walk off the extra calories we took in, but there’s no regret at all. Really enjoyed the...
