Our stay was fine, but by no means exceptional. First, the good stuff. The hotel itself presents as modern and clean. It's well located for the main gondola which is a few minutes walk away. You can walk to the town centre in around 5 minutes. The reception staff were efficient and helpful on arrival. The bedroom was comfortable, clean and warm. They were serviced during the day and kept clean.||The breakfast was very good with a great choice of buffet items, plus hot food available to order. The staff were friendly and on it with hot drinks and clearing plates. The spa is small but pleasant, and you have to book one hour slots in advance, but this worked out ok for us. Guest relations were on hand via WhatsApp and kindly booked restaurants for us on request.||The not so good bits. The main lounge lacked atmosphere, with the fake fire (giving off no heat) particularly jarring. Apparently our room was an upgrade; not sure what extra we were getting but space was minimal for a ski trip. Standard issue with lack of decent sized hooks for ski wear etc. Would have been nice to have a few English language channels on the TV (everything was Italian or dubbed - yes, I know we were in Italy, but lots of English-speaking guests present). Biggest annoyance was the lack of WiFi in our room. Our friends down the hall were also unable to connect - surely a basic expectation in a modern hotel these days.||The gym was closed for renovation mid-season - surely plan this work for the off-season! We all came with gear to do the odd workout. We asked reception for advice on getting to La Thuile and to the Skyway; a major attraction in the area. They couldn't advise on buses and we had to work it out ourselves.||We had one evening meal in the restaurant. Two of our meals were cold, and mine wasn't nice at all (chicken). Our friends had a better experience the previous evening. The service was good though.||We also visited their mountain top lodge. We were able to store our skiwear there which was convenient. We had a pleasant midday drink there one day, but returned another day around 4.30. It was billed as closing at 6, but staff started cleaning down for closing around us, playing music on their phones and seamingly waiting for us to leave. We ordered a couple of shots of a spirit from the menu which we were told wasn't available, and offered an inferior alternative which we rejected. On the way out, we saw the item we wanted right there on the back bar.||Overall, it was fine; comfortable and well located. But didn't leave us wanting...
Read moreWe stayed twice at Hotel Massif in Courmayeur this August, booking both times through Fine Hotels American Express. From the very beginning, the welcome and benefits exceeded our expectations: a warm yet professional reception, with a genuinely attentive staff. Despite their young appearance, the team was remarkably efficient, responsive, and precise.|On our first visit, we were upgraded to a spacious suite with two separate living areas, a generous bathroom featuring both a bathtub and a walk-in shower. On the second stay, we received a deluxe room with a spectacular view of Mont Blanc. Standard rooms, however, are on the smaller side; for longer stays, we strongly recommend opting for at least a Junior Suite to enjoy more comfort and space.|That said, even though the hotel is fairly new, a few small details could be improved: some balcony door handles were not working properly, the minibar noise at night could be bothersome, and corridor doors, while solid, did not fully block out voices and sounds from corridor. We would recommend higher-floor rooms away from the elevators for a quieter experience.|Breakfast, while adequate, did not quite reach the level of refinement expected for a 5-star property. Service, however, was noticeably better during our second stay at the end of August compared to the beginning of the month. Room cleanliness was acceptable, though in a hotel of this category, small oversights should not occur.|Valet parking was impeccable—fast and reliable—with the added advantage of a covered garage, an absolute necessity in Courmayeur (virtually impossible to find parking outside in summer, and in winter it’s indispensable).|The hotel’s location is outstanding: just steps from the town center and, for ski enthusiasts, right next to the cable car that whisks you up to the slopes. The spa is small and must be reserved, but treatments and massages are professional and deeply relaxing.|While there are a few areas that could be polished, Hotel Massif remains one of the few top choices in Courmayeur. Competition in town is generally mid- to low-level, and although a few other luxury properties exist, they are located outside Courmayeur and therefore far less convenient. For anyone wanting a pleasant stay right in the heart of the village, this is by far one of the few...
Read moreOne of the rare occasions I write a dissatisfactory review - We paid for use of the spa at Le Massif Courmayeur, since we already had accommodation elsewhere and felt it would be nice to end a day of skiing with a local spa. We do this sort of thing often when on holiday.
The cost was 100 euro per person (400 euros in total for us), which included use of an indoor/outdoor ‘pool’, sauna, steam room and ‘cryotherapy’.
A nice lady showed us around the basement facility, however the experience was unfortunately underwhelming. There were no thrills, and I’d certainly say it’s not good value for money.
The pool was comically small, the photos are a tad deceiving, there is enough room to sit around the edge with a few people, but its waist deep at most. Separated by automatic glass doors, you’re able to step through to the smaller outdoor section of the pool, which is considered is considered a hot tub but only at pool temperature. The glass was limescale and a tad grotty. The general fit and finish of the entire spa wasn’t great, including areas of damp. The steam room had no scent, just old water smell. The sauna was good. There was a switched-off outdoor hot tub which they were claiming was a ‘cold water treatment’ (credit for creativity). The changing rooms were strangely small, with many lockers but barely enough space for two people. There were water stains and leaks from the pool on the ceiling above. The shower handle fell off in hand.
I feel what is available is all perfectly fine if you’re a hotel guest whom gets it included with the cost of the room, I wouldn’t expect anything more from a hotel (our own hotel had less). However at 100 euro per person, this is not good value, and probably shouldn’t be advertised as a luxury spa for external guests (at this price point), to save disappointment.
The hotel/reception on the other hand is a very nice place to be, lots of space, nice atmosphere, modern and a good bar. I can imagine this is reflected in the rooms. It’s a shame the spa experience lacking.
If the spa cost was amended to 40 euros per person, this would better reflect the experience.
We didn’t get any extra treatments, such as massages etc, so we can’t...
