Alpine Guides Society of Courmayeur — Attraction in Courmayeur

My partner and I were celebrating our marriage in beautiful Courmayeur and wanted to do something special/ out of the ordinary on our trip. We unfortunately had a poor experience with another guiding company which left us with very short amount of time to arrange an alternative. Thankfully and despite it being short notice we were able to schedule a three day introduction to Alpinism with Alpine Guides Society of Courmayeur. Francesca was very helpful and responsive from the start to finish and helped us to plan our packing according to the trip and advised us on rental equipment and costs. Rudy was our guide for the three days. He is incredibly knowledgeable and patient and tailored our days out to our ability. We learnt how to top rope and abseil got to experience climbing in some of beautiful parts of the Alps, including practicing what we learnt up on the glacier- thanks to Rudy's local knowledge. It has been very memorable for us both and I was able to overcome many limitations which I no doubt would not have done without the support and encouragement of Rudy. Lovely experience mountaineering with these guys. We spent 4 days with them doing different activities. Friendly atmosphere, you can rent anything you miss, nice guides, obviously great destinations. Speaking of guides we had four of them; I would rate Nicolo and Mario as absolutely best ones. Out of other two one was very good and one was quite average, not bothering to build any trust and confidence (it does matter when climbing) and when we thought it was too dangerous to climb up when 70% of the time we were not attached to the mountain- he was just holding the rope in his hands- he told we were in panic. Después de muchos años contratando el servicio de guía en estaciones de toda Europa, esta ha sido con diferencia la peor experiencia que he tenido. Nos asignaron un guía (Max) que no sólo no se preocupó en ningún momento del nivel de los integrantes del grupo, sino que se dedicaba a tratar a boces a los chicos que venían en el grupo y que por su nivel de esquí no iban muy seguros. Max fue arrogante, mal educado, no le gustaba hablar en inglés y acabó enfrentados con nosotros como se muestra en la foto (por suerte no quisimos que el enfrentamiento llegara a mas, tengo los vídeos que demuestran su actitud chulesca con sus clientes, le daba igual que le grabáramos). Además, cuando llegamos al final del tour del Monte Bianco, momento en el que tienes que quitarte los esquís y subir durante media hora con los esquís en la mochila, Max (persona que se supone tiene que preocuparse de la seguridad de sus clientes) cogió su equipo y salió en dirección al refugio sin esperar a nadie ni preocuparse de todos pudiéramos subir, de hecho a mi hermana le dio un mareo del esfuerzo a mitad de camino, tuvimos que atenderla y esperar a que se recuperara. Cuando llegamos al refugio nos encontramos a Max tomando cervezas con sus "colegas", situación ante la cual, como os podéis imaginar, tuvimos que respirar dos veces para no generar un conflicto. Pero aquí no acaba esta pesadilla, cuando llegamos a Chamonix nos tuvieron 3 horas esperando para la recogida, Max empezó a inventarse historias de que el conductor que tenía que venir a recogernos no sabía conducir por Courmayer, que si luego había detenido un problema con la policía, que si había venido a por nosotros pero que se había llevado a otros clientes... Tres horas perdidas en un día de esquí, que sólo sirvieron para que Max se sacara una comida gratis (que le pagamos nosotros). Pedimos explicaciones a Societa Guide Alpine, nos dijeron que no tenían hoja de reclamaciones y que no estaban dispuestos a compensarnos por nada... Una vergüenza!! Una pena que no tuviéramos mas días en Courmayer para haber podido exigir...
