Ristorante L'Approdo aperto tutto anno — Restaurant in Diamante

I waited for 2 days after to write this review just to let the experience settle. We were a group of 10 that came up from the beach for a light lunch. We had 2-4 Italians/Italian speakers in the group and right from the start they were trying to upsell us on food to order. Despite our Italians telling them that we don't need that much food, they brought out some nice mixed (on the expensive side) plates of mixed seafood appetizers for the group, didn't have the cheaper Italian beer and said they only had Stella beer, gave us 4 huge plates of pasta after the appetizers that were plenty for what we wanted and pushed us over and over to get more food saying what we ordered wasn't that much. We were also hitting 230-3pm so the kitchen was closing and to be nice to them we didn't want to order 10 different dishes so we let them drive the ordering. In the end we were charged 47 euros per person and that. Includes two 16 year olds. The most expensive meal we had in Calabria thus far. My wife gave them this feedback in Italian and in person when she paid the bill.

Tldr... If you are short of options, the food is decent to pretty good here but be firm about what you want to get and don't let them push you to order too much or switch to more expensive alternatives like they did for us over and over again. The 2 stars is for the management trying to fleece us not for the good food or the scenic setting.

And this is in sharp contrast to almost all of our other eating out experiences in Calabria where the people have been friendly, kind, funny, gracious, generous, welcoming and all...

L'approdo. Un posto dove non approdare MAI!! Schifo è dire poco. Dare Zero come voto sarebbe dargli comunque valore. Penso che non mi sia mai capitato in tutta la mia vita di vivere un esperienza del genere! 2 giorni fa io e il mio compagno prenotiamo un tavolo da 2 per le ore 22:00 Bene. Arriviamo sul posto con 10 minuti d'anticipo , il titolare dopo aver trovato la nostra prenotazione ci dice che l'orario che avevamo concordato con lui era per le 21 e che quindi avevamo perso il tavolo perché occupato. (Era impossibile. Non abbiamo prenotato alle 21 perché a quell'ora non potevamo ) Ed era solo per giustificarsi per aver dato il nostro tavolo a qualcuno prima di noi. Cosa che ci poteva stare , ma bastava essere onesti e dire la verità. Invece voleva farci passare per idioti facendoci credere che l'errore fosse stato nostro. E già qui era partito male. Bene, vogliamo parlare del servizio? Inesistente , lentissimo e se chiedevi una qualsiasi cosa puntualmente dovevi sollecitare perché se ne dimenticavano sempre. Ordiniamo 2 primi. Ma ne arriva solo uno . Il mio compagno innervosito si rifiuta di mangiarlo aspettando che arrivi anche il mio . Pensando fosse questione di qualche minuto. Ma invece ne passano 20 ( senza esagerare). Il piatto del mio compagno si fredda. Finalmente un cameriere si degna di venire al tavolo capisce la situazione , si scusa , riprende il piatto completamente pieno ma ormai freddo e ci dice che ne avrebbe fatto fare un altro e che sarebbero arrivati insieme. Bene. Trascorrono altri 30 minuti , e finalmente i 2 piatti arrivano ma ormai era passata la fame un po' per il nervoso e un po' per il tardo orario. Erano le 23:30 . Avevamo ordinato 2 fritture di pesce ma il mio compagno chiede al cameriere di cancellarle considerati i precedenti altrimenti avremmo fatto l'alba. E infine chiediamo il conto. Bene. Decidiamo di alzarci dal tavolo per andare direttamente alla cassa per non aspettare ulteriormente altri 30 minuti. Chiediamo ad un cameriere il numero del nostro tavolo e ci risponde di andarci a sedere e che sarebbero venuti loro da noi perché non sapevano bene i numeri dei tavoli. ( Posso garantirvi che non è uno scherzo) Ok increduli ci sediamo sperando di riceverlo al più presto ma non si vede più nessuno. E così trascorrono 15 minuti, chiediamo ad un cameriere che ci dice che ce l'avrebbe portato subito , ma nulla. Trascorrono altri 15 minuti e lo stesso cameriere serve ad altri tavoli , dopodiché richiediamo il conto e dopo altri 15 minuti circa arriva il nostro conto. Innervositi e stanchi perchè ormai mezzanotte, ci alziamo paghiamo e all'uscita cameriere e titolari dispiaciuti del servizio della serata che però ci hanno fatto pagare fino all' ultimo centesimo😉 Qualcosa da aggiungere? Direi solo EVITATELO...

Outside terrace in a very good location: beautiful view (including sunset), pleasant sea breeze even in a hot and still evening. Food was fine, with quite big portions, I enjoyed the tuna with the local cipolla di Tropea, staff was kind and efficient. No background music, only the noise of the waves (far enough from loud music played in various spots in the centre of Diamante). Impossible to park nearby, but short walk to various parking areas (Diamante is a relatively small village). Glad we discovered l'Approdo (almost by chance), we had nice evening, we found it better than...
