Da Santarino — Restaurant in Follonica

We visited Da Santarino twice – and that alone speaks volumes. The restaurant offers fantastic dishes, with a strong focus on seafood that is always fresh, delicious, and expertly prepared. The food is undoubtedly the star of the show, and every bite confirmed that this place is worth a visit. The setting is charming, with two distinct sections: one with a more historic character, the other more modern. Both are tastefully done, with nicely set tables and an authentic, pleasant atmosphere. Why not a full five-star review? The service could be a bit more attentive and responsive. It wasn’t a major issue, but as an experienced traveler, I can say that perfection was just a small step away. Dinner here was pretty good.

My starter of choice, Crostini e salumi misti, was of excellent quality and absolutely delicious. My main dish of choice, Tortellini burro e salvia, was okay but nothing incredible - I have definitely experienced better elsewhere in Tuscany. Frozen maybe? Desert, crema catalana, was incredible!

The restaurant has a very nice setting. We had a table to ourselves closed in wooden partitions which often was the case in old restaurants. A cosy feeling. The service was really nice and friendly. Unfortunately the cuisine was disappointing. The polpo in a type of bouillon presented as a specialty was pretty tasteless. The fish fritta mista was ok but too stuffy. The dolce was really not good at all. The fruit paste on the tart was tasteless and there was not enough of it. The red house wine was ok. So - if atmosphere is a priority, a good place definitely.
