Trattoria San Giovanni — Restaurant in Gela

Don’t trust the rating. Firstly when we came no one was in the restaurant, we took a seat and waited for 15 minutes. The waiter didn’t come so we went to the bar and asked him about the menu. He told us that this restaurant doesn’t have a menu and then nothing. We started asking about the food and he told us that they have only meat and pasta. We insisted him to get info about the dishes. We ordered at the bar: water, one coke, a vegetarian pasta with broccoli and a well done steak with fresh salad and potatoes. Approximately we waited for 40 minutes. A table next to us got the food before us and also the waiter came and told them the available dishes. The food arrived, the pasta didn’t even have broccoli, it tasted like onion. The steak was basically 50% fat, it wasn’t even well done (raw), the salad didn’t have any dressing, extremely plain. The worst spent 46€...

We had dinner here. The atmosphere was really nice and there was enough space on a Friday evening. The staff only spoke Italian and not English but one girl from the kitchen came to get our orders. They were informative and friendly. We order the Sicilian appetizer and we wanted to eat a main course afterwards. When we saw what we all received we unfortunately had to cancel the main course because it was so much. We ordered it with the vegetarian options dubbel, so roughly 1,5x. It was delicious and a lot. We received 16 different dishes with a lot of it being vegetarian and very nice. For us this amount was enough as a dinner. But one portion to share would have been properly enough as an appetizer. We had a wonderful experience at the Trattoria San Giovanni. Staff are ver, very attentive and very friendly. We shared one antipasto Siciliano in 4 and there was more to go around! The pasta portions were quite generous and extremely well cooked. I had the pasta with pistacchio and speck (wonderful). My son had cavate in Sicilian ragú, my daughter had spaghettoni with pesto, tomato sauce and breadcrumbs, and my wife had pasta alla Norma.
