Honestly, I don’t understand where the high review scores are coming from. The food here was the least enjoyable of our two-week vacation.
As a starter we had the mixed bruschetta. Instead of being served on bread, it came on pieces of “pizza.” This would have been fine if the base hadn’t been hard and chewy. Also, the toppings didn’t cover the whole piece. The toppings themselves were nice, but there should have been more.
We ordered two main dishes: pizza diavola and spaghetti carbonara. For the pizza (the menu claims the dough is 48h risen), the crust was hard and not fluffy. There were no air pockets in the dough, which is exactly what 48 hours of rising should create. I even had trouble cutting through it with my knife. The topping was fine, but honestly, every other pizza I’ve had in any restaurant had a better crust.
For the pasta there were three main issues: There was far too much black pepper, which completely overpowered the dish. The pancetta (which should be cooked until crispy) was mostly raw or undercooked. The egg in the sauce had curdled into bits of scrambled egg. So unfortunately, there’s not much positive to say about the spaghetti carbonara either.
The setting itself is nice, with a view of the water, but overall I would not recommend...
Read moreFound this fantastic Restaurant which strolling along the sea front. Stopped for lunch. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Our table was a little small for us to put our sun hats and sun glasses on however the staff brought us another chair to put our belongings on without having to be asked. The menu is of a good size with plenty of choice for everyone. My wife had a seafood platter with prawns, squid etc which she declared fantastic, fresh tasty and if anything she declared the portion was too much but there was nothing left on the plate. I chose the salmon and prawn pizza. It was a large pizza covered with salmon and prawns. The cheese was just how you would expect and the tomato sauce was really good. The pizza base was thin but not at all soggy it held the toppings perfectly. I would rate it as the best pizza I have ever had to date. Prices were very reasonable. I had the local beer and my wife a local chardonnay both chilled and tasty. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area , we will...
Read moreThere are numerous restaurants in Giardini Naxos, but not all are top notch. We found that most restaurants in the area are very generic, they all offer the same pasta or meat dishes combined with clams, mussels, octopus and other sea creatures that we don't like. So, we found Capitano Uncino - definitely an extremely excellent restaurant and one that offers some pasta dishes without the additional marine life. We dined there twice for dinner, both times having something different. The wife turned us onto Mandarinotte, an appertivo after dinner that was superb. If we are ever in the area, we will clearly eat here again. It was quality and tasteful food. The restaurant does get very busy after 7pm as obviously everyone that loves high quality wants...
