Ristorante Pizzeria Taverna Naxos — Restaurant in Giardini-Naxos

Wife and I spent a couple weeks driving from Rome down to Sicily. This was by far the best dining experience we had on our trip.

We pulled into Naxos a little late, and just wanted a bite to eat before bed. We stumbled upon this place out of pure luck. It just sort of happened to be the first pizza place with the lights still on when we left our hotel.

We stepped in and there was one other group that was just finishing up. We asked if they were still open and they greeted us with smiles and waved us to sit down.

Ordered our pizza and watched them throw a couple logs into their brick oven and toss our dough.

After they served us, they made a plate of pasta for themselves and ate at the next table over. I only know very basic Italian.. and the old man (who I assumed was the owner, with possibly his son in the kitchen?) speaks very broken English. But we managed to make a little conversation while we ate.

I left a few euros more than I probably should have on the table when we left. Mostly because I felt a little bad they spent wood on just us.. and the old man chased me out the door with a smile and "an orange from his garden".

The whole experience felt so genuine, friendly, authentic.. you don't get that "mom and pop shop"...

We loved this restaurant - from the welcome the minute we walked in followed by the tasty, freshly cooked tomato and red onion bruchetta that was brought as an extra before the meals we ordered - to the meals themselves; seafood risotto full of mussels and prawns and the most delicious salame pizza with the best base ever, washed down with a half litre of local red wine - and to cap it all, a plate of sliced orange and pear, some peeled cactus fruit for us to try from the kind owner and then freshly roasted chestnuts brought by his wife - a lovely meal from a lovely family - and all for just...

Ci siamo fermati in quanto unico posto che faceva mangiare anche alle 23, sedendoci ci dicono che la cucina avrebbe chiuso a breve. Ordiniamo una pasta precisamente spaghetti al sugo che alla fine diventano rigatoni perché non me avevano più e calamari fritti. Come prima cosa ci portano il pane, duro e puzzolente, arrivano i piatti, la pasta alla fine non arrivano nemmeno rigatoni ma maccheroni ma non è qui il problema, il sugo acido ho avuto problemi tutta la notte di bruciore e dissenteria. I calamari fritti, innanzitutto crudi e il calamaro non era nemmeno buono allego foto. Poi ovviamente vedendo quei calamari per mangiare qualcosa gli abbiamo chiesto un altra pasta al sugo, il cameriere basso e magro ha detto la cucina è chiusa, e poi hanno fatto sedere ben due tavoli uno da due e uno da cinque, gli abbiamo fatto notare la sua ridicola figura e ha cercato di giustificarsi ma invano perché tutti lì dentro sono stati ridicoli e altezzosi perché non se lo potevano nemmeno permettere vedendo il pessimo servizio e il pessimo cibo. Abbiamo pagato 30€ per un fritto, due piatti di pasta al sugo, coca cola e acqua grande. Non andate perché a fine serata non pagherete solo il conto ma pure un pacco di immodium. Ah dimenticavo quando abbiamo detto al signore proprietario che i calamari non ci sono piaciuti lui ha risposto si potevano essere più fritti. Che schifo. Le rispondo qui visto che non mi fa rispondere: Punto 1 era suo obbligo in quanto proprietario di un ristorante avere un servizio decente senza avvelenare le persone. Punto 2 nemmeno delle scuse per la maleducazione e il cibo non buono abbiamo ricevuto anche se l’abbiamo fatto presente.
