Il Portolano — Restaurant in Giovinazzo

Unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience here. We were seated and had to wait nearly an hour for our appetisers to come out (and they came out 10 minutes separate from one another). I understand places get busy, but there was no apology or acknowledgment from staff. By the time the mains came out we were ready for bed. The food itself wasn’t very good. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if the “grilled” octopus was actually just heated up in a microwave. There was nothing “grilled” about it - just piping hot, with heaps of steam coming off it and the potatoes. The flavour wasn’t too bad but it certainly wasn’t grilled. The pizza was ok, but the Neapolitan crust was too thick and bread-like (more than it’s supposed to be). When we went to pay no one asked how the meal was or apologised for the very long wait, they just accepted our money and let us leave. If there was some empathy or explanation given, perhaps I wouldn’t have written this review. I’ll be back to Giovinazzo, but not...

Two of us had dinner here; having to reserve a table as the prior night it was a full house. Staff are a bit more businesslike than other places visited; leaving any connection limited. We ordered Bombette to share then main Pizza. Due to a mix-up we ended up with a 3rd glass of wine (we struggled to know who our server was most of the time), which we accepted and paid for. It is a word of caution, as the house wine pour is "short"; almost 1/2 some other restaurants. There is also a coperto charge of €2/person. For what we received it was a pricy dinner out and not great value for money....

Prenoto il venerdì per la domenica a "il Portolano". È un ristorante - pizzeria. C'è poca gente, complice il meteo un pizzico incerto. Questa cosa non mi lascia sereno, avendo la responsabilità della scelta. Un attraversamento stradale divide il locale dalla marina di Giovinazzo. Il locale ha 3 ambienti: una piattaforma esterna che guarda il mare, una sala ampia interna in legno pesante scuro che, nel mio personale immaginario, ricorda un gradevole galeone di pirati e infine un giardino esterno con arredamento rustico semi coperto. Si può scegliere dove accomodarsi. Il menù è con QR code e c'è anche una lavagnetta per le pietanze in alternanza. Dopo aver gradito gli antipasti a base di pesce, la scelta di primi deve ricadere non su una vasta gamma ma su 3 proposte di cui, anche per facilitare la cucina, si è scelto: 1) raviolone ripieno 2) spaghettone ai gamberi. Assaggiati entrambi devo ammettere, e sarebbe scorretto non evidenziarlo, che il raviolo ripieno di spigola era clamorosamente buono! Pasta fatta in casa, delicato piatto servito con pomodoro e asparago. Ottimo equilibrio, ottimo lavoro. Bravo chef! Non mi dilungo ulteriormente sul pranzo. Il servizio è stato effettuato da 2 cameriere: una esperta, davvero piacevole, sempre sorridente (dettaglio cui porgo sempre l'accento) e l'altra alle prime esperienze. Ciò nonostante anche ai piccoli errori sul servizio, un cliente come me, può soprassedere se a compensare ci sono educazione e disponibilità. Quindi promosse entrambe ma attenzione: si deve sempre migliorare! Tornerò certamente per assaggiare la pizza che le 2 cameriere hanno pubblicizzato come essere top. Sarà vero? Staremo...
